WELCOME HOME VIETNAM VETERANS DAY-MARCH 30

In 2000, I began a campaign to welcome home our Vietnam Veterans. I felt the need to say thank you, God bless you and welcome home.

Last May 15 2004, my team and I left Whittier, Ca. on bicycles to go to Washington, D.C. to ask Congress and the President of the United States to create a day of recogniton for our Vietnam Veterans.

Rep. Linda T. Sanchez has introduced H-Res 30 in the House, which calls for March 30, of every year to be recognized as Welcome Home Vietnam Vetrans Day. Now, there are dozens of co-sponsors to the bill, including Reps. Grace Napolitano and Loretta Sanchez, also from California. We need state reps from other states to pick up the ball and support the bill.

I've spent five years and thousands of dollars (most of which I still owe), countless hours telephoning, faxing, e-mailing, letter-writing, lobbying, fund- raising and pushing those who had the power to make this happen.

This bill, when passed, will show all our Veterans that no matter how long it takes, America's warriors are not forgotton.

People who really care about Vietnam Veterans and about how they were ignored after returning home should call their representatives and ask them why their names are not on the bill as co-sponsors? This bill does not have political barriers, it does not ask for money, time off from work, parades or $50 bucks off at Wal-mart; all it says is that it is time to say thank you, God bless and welcome home to our Vietnam Veterans. My question is where is the name of your state rep? Why don't they support this bill? Call them today and ask them.

We need to do it now before another Vietnam Veteran dies without hearing those words of gratitiude from a grateful nation.

I have set up a Web site at www.whvvd.org On that site I have placed links to government offices, including the White House, Congress and the Senate.

This March 30 has passed just like they have for the past four decades, and no one cared or showed any regard. The Vietnam Veteran, very much forgotton like the Korean War Veteran, will stand proudly on the sidelines waiting for America to recognize her true heroes.

As founder and team coordinator for Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day, I urge to to please help me in this "solo" campaign. I know I can't do it alone, I need your help, in every state of Union. I ask this as one American and as one Veteran to another. This is not just about the Vietnam Veteran. This is about America doing what is right. Please take the time today to say hello, thank you and God bless to all Veterans.

It all began here in Whittier; Ca. help me take it to the rest of the nation.

Looking for anyone who knew Wayne Szulkowsi from Chicago. I know he was in the 101st and the 327. I believe he served with 2nd battalion, but I'm not sure. He was with the original combat troops to arrive in Vietnam in 1965. I'm basically looking for the unit he did serve with.

OK Guys, I am here and ready to make history for you. I am SFC Frank Allen, (RET) 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and have served in both Afghanistan and Iraq so I know what I am drawing and have the attention to detail needed to accurately document a unit in combat. I have 10 prints out on the art market now and have just completed two more, one for the Special Operations Weather Combat Teams and the newest one for 502nd Infantry, Five O Deuce on the loose, ?Strike ? in Iraq print. Now I am going to do one for you, 327th Infantry. I would like to do one for the Vets and one for the Current guys in Iraq. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Talk is cheap so check out my website and see for yourself. www.fallengraphics.com email fallengraphics@email2me.net have a good one and you might see the print soon if all goes well. I also have a RET CSM that does not respect me or my artwork, you know who you are and if you slander my name, I have something special for you. It is the man that makes it happen, not his mouth, Thank you, Frank

Some information that might be helpful: I contacted my congressman, and his secretary sent off and got all my medals that I did not receive while I was in VIet Nam. It only took about 3 to 4 weeks. If your medals are listed on your dd 214, you will receive them, only one they were not authorized to send, but did get the ribbon for it, even got the expert rifle I earned while in basic. I was impressed with their response. If interested contact your congressman and they will do all the work, just have your 214 ready for them If an individual sends for them, I was told it would take months. they even put my name on the back of them. If I can be of help e-mail me, Gary VIet Nam 1969.

I was switched later to the 1st Platoon under Sgt Tieman. It's too bad the first platoon picture does not appear in the company photo. I can help to name a few of the guys in the 2nd platoon photo. PRESS RELEASE: For immediate publication in newsletters and online postings

Letter Writing Campaign for Retroactive Air Assault Badge

The Air Assault Parity Coalition has begun a Letter Writing Campaign requesting the new Secretary of the Army make the current Air Assault Badge retroactive to the Vietnam war for former airmobile and air cavalry combat veterans. The Army previously ?considered and rejected? the retroactive award of the current Air Assault Badge to former members of the air assault units.

The Air Assault Parity Coalition is also seeking a congressional sponsor for a Retroactive Air Assault Badge bill. Back in 61 when I was assigned to the 1/327th Abn Battle Group then later to the 2/327th, I had no idea that 44 years later I'd still be a member. I lost memories through the years but with web sites like this those once forgotten chambers in my mind are slowly being open. And since I was in all three I can say ATR, STN & NS

I haven't been in here except to check for old friends. Tom Fergeson, I want to thank you for your write up of Troung Luong. You have no idea how it helps to keep this mass of a brain I have straight when things start to get mixed up, up there. Bruce M. don't feel alone my friend. I can only remember two days in years passed that I didn't think of that place in are pass, and they were the days my ( Travis and Amy Jean ) was born. I still have nights even today that I don't sleep. I long for the days when I can put my hand into the hand of one of us from June 1966. Than I'll have real proof that I'm not the only one. I am looking for anyone who served with my father, Sgt. Mark Marquess, in Vietnam in C-2/327 Infantry 101st Airborne, he served in Vietnam from January 10, 1970 until December 4, 1970. My father died in 1979 when I was very young and talked very little to relatives of his time in Vietnam and I'd like to find out where all he was during a time that had such a profound impact on his life and anything anyone could tell me of him as I was so young when he died and have a limited amount of memories. If you may have known him or could give me any information on his locations while in Vietnam I'd greatly appreciate it.

My father was an avid photographer and wrote descriptions on the back of his pictues so I do have some clues as to who and where I'm looking for information about. He had pictures of the following people: Dave Sandoval, Don Kirby, Dennis Utt, Ron Kenslow, Ed McWilliams, Horn, Morris, Doghandler, Ralph Velasco, Sammy Gray, Jay Irick, Gary Way, Roger Long, Kerry Kitt, Allen Tinker, Ramos, Watson, George Mallinak, Doc Kelly, Danny Poole, Ron Smith, MacGregor, Terry Kasparian, Mike Rice, Bob Mattox, Sadler, Skinner, Lamburger, Puckett, Chico, Slick Wilhelmi, and Little John. If you have any information on these people or know where I can find them please contact me.

He has pictures of the following places, with the exception of the major cities I can't find many of these places on a map and would be interested in knowing where they are and/or information on the operations my father could have been participating in, in these places. The places were: Eagle, Cau Hai, Cam Ranh, Hoa Binh, Hoa Mau, Cau Hai, Phu Loc, Cinh Loc, Bach Ma Road, Los Banos, Nvoc Voc, Elephant Valley, Truoi, 155, Hill 602 and Nuoc. Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Screaming Eagle Troopers

This is Jerry Berry with the 3-506th (Bn PIO 1967/68) - www.currahee.org. Check it out!

Since Dale and I help each other out from time to time, I wanted to pass on this offer to our sister battalions of 1st Brigade.

I get requests often from our members asking me how do they go about getting copies of their military personnel and medical records. I and others have posted the "How To" on our website and through e-mails. I offered to help anyone wanting to get theirs for a fee...I think $20-$25 it was. Several of you took me up on it. My fee was to cover the cost of postage, filling out the necessary forms, communicating with St. Louis (when needed), etc. The
>two primary reasons why many of you don't go through the process to get yours, is you don't have the time to do it, or understand exactly the process to follow. It normally takes about 2-3 months to get your records, if St. Louis don't have to get back with you. Then, you are put back on their list and that means a longer delay.

I spoke with my daughter, Stephanie, who as you know does a lot of my graphics for our Currahee group; and asked her if she would be willing to do the 'leg work' for anyone wanted to get copies of their military records. Since she is working to generate jobs for 'fledging' home-based business--graphicworks.com, she said she would love to. So, here's the offer:

For a fee of $25, she will take your military service information needed (you provide) to submit it to St. Louis and file for you the request (form 180, if I'm not mistaken, which I have) for your records--(both personnel and medical...two different departments). She will do all the 'leg work' and communicating with St. Louis for you).

The military encourages all veterans to request copies of their records for personal needs, especially for medical claims and treatment. You will be amazed at what all you will find in your records. I had everything from draft notice, shot records, all orders (with so many names of guys that were in my units (Basic, AIT, Jump School, 3-506th). I even found orders with home addresses of other guys listed on certain orders. A wealth of info.

If interested, let us know, and Stephanie will contact you.

I am looking for folks who might have known Lt Joseph B. Kube. He extended his tour from a Special Forces assignment to join the 327th in October 1966. Until March 1967 he served as a rifle platoon leader and commander of Combat Recon Co - Tiger Force. He was WIA Feb '67.
I would appreciate a mail from anyone who remembers Joe.

When we set a perimiter for the night, the platoon sargent would go around and find positions for the squads. Each squad would then send two out to place flares and claymors. One would set the equipment and the other would stand guard. It was a good time to enjoy the jungle. No rucksaks, just harnesess, rarley any contact. Tie the flares to something solid and pull the pin out just enough.
And then the dusk would come and for a while all the jungle would sing untill it got dark.
Anybody remember that?

I was born in Cuba and my first recollection of the 101st was from the movie “Battle Ground” that I saw in my native country during the turmoil’s of the 1954 elections. Little would I imagine that in 1960 I would be in the US and in 1968 I would be in the jungles of Vietnam with the 101st and serving with the best infantry battalion and regiment in the US Army. Having being part of the 101st Airborne and of the 2nd of the 327th Airborne Infantry will be one of my proudest moments of my life. Thank you for honoring our unit and many thanks for the honor of serving with the best.

To all of you whom I have grown to know and have become fond of, and to those of you of whom which have given a sacrifice in serving our great country, this is for you.

Thank you for serving, and I wanted to say Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I plan on helping my Grandfather SSG Fred Tregaskes Sr. (a Vietnam Vet) and his wife, Arlene Tregaskes, visit the veteran's homes and listen to the stories. I love listening to what it was like then, because to me understanding the then and the now makes my life more meaningful.

Thank you for serving and giving of yourself for our Great Country. One day I hope to do the same, and God Bless You All. You are all in my thoughts.

SIncerely,
the proud Granddaughter of a wounded, paralyzed, honored me, the proud friend of men he served with, and a patriotic citizen of the United States of America,

Hello. My father, Troy Allen Frodge, was in Vietnam from 1970-1971 with 101st-2/327 No Slack (not sure what company). He was one of the cooks there and he has problems with remembering much from that time, he does remember delivering pizza's to some of you while under attack and a few other stories that he has shared with us. Lately, he's been trying to remember more information to where he was located in Vietnam and for this Christmas I would like to be able to tell him. If anyone remembers him or know where I can find some information please contat me at JeninaF@msn.com.

Thank you and

Great work on the web site. Very well done!

It was truly inspirational to watch 327th troopers walk point for the Screaming Eagles in the attack to liberate Najaf in March 2003 and to see the Bastogne Bulldogs do so magnificently throughout the first year of Operation Iraqi Freedom. And it was an honor to soldier with them in the Division that year.

Served in Tiger Force late November 1970 thru Feb/Mar 1971. Transferred to newly formed "Sky Hawks". Overall memory is vague, however some memories are as vivid as yesterday. Remember the night 12/24/70 I was RTO in bush when "friendly" fire hit unit in bush. Multiple deaths. Next day our Christmas dinner arrived by chopper in body bags. Remember "Blue"; Sgt. Clancy/Yancy? Bear; Doc Watson? Remember Bob Hope Christmas show @ Camp Eagle. Remember first mission walking off Bastogne. Remember losing resupply by being kicked from chopper and landing in river. Remember mission extended with no food. Remember fishing with hand grenades and eating fish, unpolished rice and catchup! What would booney food be like without catchup, dehydrated onions and green peppers? Remember cooking with C4 to make LRRP rations. Oh the days! How I miss them. I remember drying my socks over a heat tab on a stick while sitting under a pancho liner face to face with a buddy! I remember the rain! I remember the mountains! I remember the rain! Four months and no sun! I remember two typhoons! I remember kit carson scouts! I remember many things! It has been many years, but I remember!

Just wanted to say how sorry I was to hear of Frank Norris's passing, we had just been with him and his fianc'e Janie at the Ist Brigade reunion in Phoenix. Frank was an old school paratrooper, who was tough as nails, and to have soldiered with him was an honor. We now know that his trip to Phoenix must have been an ordeal for him, but he wanted to be with his B-company friends one last time. Frank was one of a kind and will be remembered by everyone who humped a ruck or shared a c-rat with him. He was one hell of a soldier to the very end. -- Jim wilson

Looking for anyone who might have known John Hefty. He was with either C Co. 1/327 or B Co. 2/327 and was KIA on March 28, 1968. He and I were buddies all through high school, then went to Nam and were with separate divisions. We wrote back and forth a lot, then I got wounded in April 68 in the A Shau and got home and learned that John was KIA. I'm trying to find out the circumstances of his death. Thanks for your help.

Was informed that Frank "Lone Wolf" Norris passed away today. Frank gathered up his strength to attend the Phoenix reunion and share a ton of memories with his trooper buddies. He is now sailing with the eagles in the arms of God. Please say a prayer for his fiance Janie and his family.

Your website is quite interesting - providing me a perspective on Vietnam that is different from my experience as a Marine infantry squad leader with Kilo 3/1 during 1967.

I have a question - could you please explain how many troops were in the 327th at full capacity? Furthermore how many troops are in an Army battalion or brigade at full strength? Lastly, what size is a full strength company?

In the Marine Corps during Vietnam we were usually understrength. Replacements for killed and seriously wounded were always behind the need. The assignment, however, never changed - being under strength just made the mission more difficult for those who survived ....

I appreciate an answer to my request regarding the size of units in the 327th. Thanks in advance.

Semper Fi,

Michael Thill

I am a veteran governor of the 327th Infantry Regiment in the 101st Airborne Division Association. At the last reunion in Hampton Va., a proposal was made that the association make a gesture to the active division to both support them in this critical time and to honor their great service to our country. Part of that proposal is to seek donations from the veterans of the 327th regiment of $5 to $10 each for the purpose of purchasing pavers engraved with the names of those 327th troopers who died in Iraq, those pavers to be laid at the 101st monument at Ft Campbell. These pavers are $101 each. Any surplus from this project is to be donated to the Support Fund for junior enlisted personnel of the active division at Ft Campbell. As Vietnam veterans, I'm sure we appreciate and honor the valor and sacrifice made by the division in this war and the service that they might yet have to provide in the near future.

I am a songwriter in Dallas, Texas. I'm looking for information about a man named Danny Nye (Daniel Eugene Nye). It's a long, long story but I thought I had "made up" a fictitious name and story as the basis of a song. Turns out, I think that through coincidence or fate (or something more bizarre)I "made up" a real person and what really happened to him. Weird, I know. But can anyone help?

Thank you to all the Vets! You have done us proud serving your Country! It is so important for Americans to support our Vets of yesterday, today and tomorrow!
I have started a small grassroots effort with a big heart called Patriotic Fridays. I want everyone to support our troops and to promote patriotism in America by participating in Patriotic Fridays. The letter below was written by me and is posted on my web site. It has been sent to the Air Force Times, several Ca newspapers, to friends on the internet, celebrities and to politicians. It is being promoted by the Dr I work for and participated in by us and patients. It has grown from the Chiropractor's office where I work and beyond the neighborhoods of our patients to Americans across the Country. I hope you will join us in Patriotic Fridays. God bless you for all your support and prayers for our Vets.
Kathleen Manning
Westlake Village, CA http://www.patrioticfridays.com/

Remember post 9/11 Patriotism?
We waved flags, dressed in red, white and blue, adorned our clothes with flag pins, placed flag stickers on our cars and posters in our windows. We pledged not to forget and to stand united!

As time goes by, we are seeing tattered flags, faded posters, peeling stickers and a lack of red, white and blue in our lives.

IT IS TIME AGAIN TO STAND UNITED AS AMERICANS!

It's not about being Democrat or Republican or Independent, it's not about race, religion or how you feel about the war in Iraq. It's not even about high gas prices or the economy. It is about our FREEDOM as Americans!

Let's make every Friday, PATRIOTIC FRIDAY! Wear your red, white and blue proudly. Get out your flag shirts, scarves, ties, hats, pins and let everyone know that you are PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN and that WE STILL STAND UNITED!

Pass this on! Talk about it! Do It! Let a great thing begin with you.

GOD BLESS AMERICA

IF WE REALLY CARE, WE WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN
by Jos? G. Ramos

On May 15, 2004, I left Whittier, CA. on what was to be the most emotional and mental "roller coaster" bicycle ride of my life. I fully recall the feelings I had as I rode my bicycle down the roads of Vietnam back in 1998 and they will always be unforgettable memories. However, this ride across America, where I had the opportunity to visit every major Veteran's medical center in every state we rode across, was truly a life long experience. I don't know if anyone has ever done this but I had the chance to visit with hundreds of Veterans in every hospital we visited. We spoke to them in Vet-Centers, clinics, groups, waiting rooms, wards, waiting for prescriptions, etc. But they were there, each one a warrior, each one a Veteran. It was so great. They wanted to hear about the Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day project we were on, they wanted to see our bikes, wear the helmets and so on. But most of all, every single Veteran I met, regardless of what era they served in, all agreed it was about time to fix that old wrong. It is time to Welcome Home our Vietnam Veterans. When we arrived in DC we worked out of Congresswomen Grace Napolitano's and Linda T. Sanchez's office along with their wonderful staff members for two days. We made appointments, we did walk-in's to other Congressional Offices, we phoned, we stopped Congressional folks in the hallways, elevators, cafeterias, etc. We talked and worked for two days in the Halls of Congress and we raised a lot of awareness as to what needed to be done with the Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day Bill {H. Res # 485} and about our faulty VA Medical system. We also asked all we spoke with to support Bill H.R. 2318 the mandatory funding bill for our VA Medical Facilities. This insures that our warriors who are out there now will have a VA system that will be here for them when THEY NEED it. This is not only about Vietnam Veterans this about our men and women who are out there NOW, TODAY. I am including all the information I could gather to share with ya'll cause now it is up to us, the regular, everyday Americans to back up our talk that we "love our Veterans." Now is the time to show that love and appreciation. Let's get our politicians to do the right thing. It is time to make it happen. All it takes from us is the honest desire to see an old wrong corrected and to really have it in our hearts that we need to thank and Welcome Home the new Veterans as well as the Veterans of the Vietnam War who did a tremendous and honorable job during their time of service. It's in Congress now, all we have to do today is push the Bills, and push our local Reps to support them. If you go to this site on the net [http://mygov.governmentguide.com/mygov/issues/bills/?billtype=H.R.&billnumb;=2318&congress;=108} you can actually se the wording on the bills and who the sponsors are.
I hope this information makes it easier for all of you to make this very important phone call and understand what you are calling about.
God bless you my friends and it is really important that you and all you know who care about Veterans call their local Congressional Representative and ask them to support Bill H.RES. # 485 "Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that a "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day" should be established."
Also, Bill # H.R.2318 "To amend title 38, United States Code, to provide for assured adequate level of funding for veterans health care."
My team and I have done what we can to raise awareness. It is up to us and the rest of America to make this change happen.
Share this with everyone so they can call their congressional leader anywhere in the States. PLEASE MAKE THE CALL AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
Thanking you again in advance for your efforts, love and support of our Veterans.

Does anyone remember my dad CSM Antonio Torres? We were in FT Campbell from 1968-1972. My dad did a couple of tours in VN. Anyone that would like to share a memory I would appreciate it.
His son,
Joey

Gentlemen,

I am the company executive officer for D Co. 1-327. Mike Moreno and Andy Roy stopped by and spoke to the company today. They announced that our alumni were going to present the company with an American flag that flew over FIRE BASE TOMAHANK. This is a wonderful honor for the company. It will be hung in the conference room to remind us of your sacrifice. Thank you for this connection to our past.

After their visit I took some time to view this website. I had heard mention of it before and this visit by Mike and Andy really got my attention. After viewing it I certainly have more knowledge and pride about our great battalion. I also want to thank all you for your service. You have left an ?Above the Rest? legacy that we here uphold everyday.

In Operation Iraqi Freedom I served as platoon leader for 2nd PLT, Co. C, 1-327 and 1st PLT, Co. D, 1-327. Upon our return soldiers were talking about a reunion for Cold Steele and how much they enjoyed speaking with the vet?s. So, I plan on joining the reunion this weekend and meeting you all. I also would love to get my hands on one of those Cold Steele Cobra T-Shirts.

Finally, if any of you would like to tour the company area please feel free to stop by, you are always welcome.

Sincerely,

Corey McCoy

Hi Jim
Thanks for sharing this site with me and serving our great country. I did not have a chance to do that. I have two son's that also signed up. My older son went through boot camp Fort Sill, kicked out on a medical for a blood clot in his arm. All his buddy's went to Desert Strorm. My younger son signed up for the Coast Guard but was turned down after a year because he admitted to smoking pot in high school. If you can tell me what is wrong with this picture I would greatly appreciate the input. Then again I what to thank you and all your buddy's personally for everything you have done for me, my family and this beautifull country that we live in! God Bless Our Troops Please bring them home Safe!
