My dad is Tom Goodwin. He served with the Hawks and as a kid he gave me his patches from his service in the Army. Since then I have grown up and been on again off again collecting. Recently I have been back in the swing of things buying patches to at least get Divisions, Armies, Corps, because there are literally thousands upon thousands of patches. Case in point theater patches. I have the only Hawk Recon scroll I had ever seen until a guy who served popped up from the Hawk Recon unit. We sat and talked about different stuff for about an hour. He had invited me to his home. Bottom line is there are lots of fake patches out there and it's even made in Vietnam. Shit made a year ago to fool a collector like myself. I would like to find a REAL Tiger Force scroll from a man who served in the unit. This would complete my collection since I have the Hawk Recon scroll. PLEASE contact me via email and I will call or return the email. dkgoodwin1970@yahoo.com I also have the arrowhead he received from the RECONDO school. Tom was among the first one 100 graduates.

Hello all... my father was James L. McGrone, F/Sgt. (Ret). He served in the US Army from 1962-1982. He was in Vietnam from 1967-1971. He was a Jumpmaster/Pathfinder in the 101st 3rd Brigade B company, I believe. If you have any information about my father or a story you'd like to tell I'd be so grateful. He passed at the age of 70yrs old on 03-01-2014. He didn't talk much about the war but he was a highly decorated vet. Thanks!

Forty five years ago, No Slack lost troopers on FSB Berchtesgan. I was at FSB Currahee in the valley floor witnessing the attack. The next night, the NVA hit us. I am trying to locate a man who was a remarkably positive influence in my life as a young boy scout in 1969-1970. At that time he was SSgt James Hendrix, a medic in the HHC 1/327 Inf, 101st ABN. He was in San Antonio in 1968-69 recovering from GSW injuries received in Vietnam, and for some reason decided to take on a no-kidding rag-tag bunch of Boy Scouts at Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio. He was a remarkable influence on all of us, and we all directly gained from knowing him, something I was really not nearly able to appreciate as much then as I have long since then.
Anyway, I was digging through some old junk (courtesy of what will probably be my last PCS move after 30 years AD) and was amazed to come across several letters that he had sent me from Vietnam after he had returned following his return to full duty. I was stunned to read these, not having seen them since I had 1st read them with the eye of a clueless teenager in 1970. I read them now with the eyes of one with 30 military years' service, and the background of literally scores of accounts (some personally given to me, others I have read) regarding the Vietnam War and only now can dimly begin to see what he was relating to me of his experience and time there in the jungle, something that was simply too utterly alien for a young boy to grasp, other than I was so pleased he took the time to write me, as we all idolized him.
So, armed with the information on the envelopes (I am withholding his SSN for his own securities sake), I am hoping someone can help me track this man down so I can thank him for the strong positive impact he had on my life, now better armed with the hindsight of more than >40< years.
Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated, I will happily pursue any lead, no matter how trivial it may seem.
Best regards,
