My husband is currently serving a 15 month tour in Iraq, and we have a couple of signs in our yard. They are bright yellow No Slack signs that also say that I love my screaming eagle. I show these signs in support of my husband and his fellow soldiers. I used to be a soldier myself at Fort Campbell, but I was in an MP company, 194th MP of the 716th MP BN. We met in the military, and between the two of us in the last 3 and a half years, we have done 3 tours in Iraq. We are excited to both be civilians again, but the 327th has been pretty good to my husband. These signs affect people in different ways. Sometimes I go outside and they are knocked down or across the yard because of people who do not support us. Then for the first time today, a man stopped in and told me he was surprised by the sign and had to do a double take, so he turned around and stopped in. He said he was in the 327 years ago in Delta company. I believe he said his last name was Carpenter, sorry if I have mistaken this name or spelled it wrong. I really appreciated his short visit, it was nice to see that people still respect and support our military members. I believe that many people, more the younger generations, take for granted their freedom because they have never see first hand what people fight for to get that freedom. Times have changed, and now the government has to beg for people to join by using incentives and bonuses. When just a few decades ago, it was normal for everyone to serve a few years, and the draft was used. Now days the draft is treated like the plague, and soldiers have to be stop loss to fulfill the numbers for the war. My husband was supposed to be out of the army last november, but he was kept on active duty for a 15 month deployment and left only 2 weeks after our first son was born. If more people were willing to fight for freedom and serve even a few years in the military, my husband would be here right now. I am glad that both of us have served for our country and fought for freedom, but I would like to see it mandatory for everyone to serve even just one year in the military. Its only one year of someones life, and we all know that one year goes by so fast! Anyways, I appreciate the 327, and the people who serve our country as well as those people who support our troops!

Hey
Just to say hello and let you know that Eric was my Uncle and I mourn his loss each day since 1967. He has always been a hero in my life as I was 8 when he was killed. What a lean man he was, went to boot camp and came back a man with honor in his eyes for his comrades and his country.
There are so many things I wanted to know about him and I still hear my dad keeps in touch with Terry Whiley. How great that Terry came back with Eric to be with us all. If you remember him, have photos of him or can just say hey please let me know.
Know that you are all a part of that day, a part of his life and yes a part of his death.

To BG Hodges
Dear Sir, I saw your post on the 327infantry.org guestbook and recognized your name immediately. Your leadership as a company commander left an indelible mark on my life as a soldier and greatly influenced my developing leadership style. You knew how to pull the best out of us and made us proud of doing it.
It was late Nov 86 when I reported to Cold Steel, you and Skeletor {1LT McKree?} came in from the field all muddy and tired, {I guess that happens when you lead from the front} and even though you were busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest you took the time to welcome the new guy. You told SSG Preston E. Holmes to look after me and get me settled in. I became 1SG Rosados driver and you gave me the freedom to do what it took to get that old jeep back in usable condition. You even gave me an Army Achievement Medal for making it through an entire deployment through the mudfields of Arnold Airbase. While prepping the jeep for a new paint job I had sprayed red primer on all the bare metal and sharp corners and just my luck we got alerted to the field before the darn thing could get repainted. Col Haluski saw us and from a distance I heard him asking you about our camouflage having red stripes in it. I dont know how bad you got fussed at but all you said to me was some praise for using initiative and taking care of our equipment, adding that I should get it fixed as soon as possible. I still have my lateral promotion to corporal orders when you made me an NCO and I proudly wore my stripes for the first time at our company dining in. How many company commanders would take an evening off in the middle of a 14 day field exercise and bus our families and girlfriends out to meet us for a weenie roast?, I remember when you did. You gave me my first fire team under SFC Smith in 3rd Herd with Sgt Glass and Cpl Bertram. The training was never easy but you made us feel like we could do it and have us asking for more.Years later I answered the phone at battalion HQ when you called to talk to our commander. Although time had passed and you commanded a battalion of your own you remembered one of your old soldiers and asked about my family.
Ive had commanders that would be offended by what Ive said here. They would be outraged that a lowly Sergeant would dare presume to say well done to a General Officer but frankly I dont think they have much to worry about. While in your command you made us feel more like we were serving with you than under you so I know you will accept this letter for the simple thank you that it is. Under your command, Duty Honor Country was tangible and Above the Rest was a way of life.
William H Moyers SGT USA RET

I was with E comany mortars Aug 70 Aug 71. I like most of you have PTSD, been in therapy since 97. 100% service connected. I am in group therapy with all combat vets. It is true what they say, only a combat vet understands another combat vet. Never knew how screwed up I really am. I am very proud I served with the 101st. I have a large collection of Eagles. I have a tatoo of an Eagle in his talons in a Viet Nam service ribbon shaped like a circle. I miss the guys in my platoon think of them all the time. Ive been to 4 reunions but never met any one I knew.

reformed the unit into a battallion I dont know what happened to the

HONORING OUR BROTHER: Jon R. Honrath
I would like to thank Mike Verrengia for putting us in contact with two members of A/1/327 (Steve Black and Doug Larabel) who served with my brother PFC Jon R. Honrath. Jon was killed in August 1967 just 9 days after his 19th birthday.
On this 40th anniversary of his death, my brothers and sisters would really appreciate knowing more about his death and any stories you may have of his service in VN and especially if you have a picture (or pictures) you can share.
On behalf of a grateful family, thank you for your service to our country!

I had the very distinct honor of leading the fine soldier patriots of Company C (The Cold Steel Cobras) of the First Battalion in the mid to late 1980s and I served with some of the finest soldiers, non-commissioned officers and officers in the Army. I have seen some of their names on these pages (such as Chris Hughes, Ben Hodges, Jim DiCrocco) and it fills me with pride to having worn the Screaming Eagle patch.
I am also filled with pride when I read about the great soldiers of our regiment and what they have accomplished -- and are accomplishing now fulfilling their own Rendezvous with Destiny and I am reminded of the words of George Orwell who said: People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
I am thankful to have such capable 327th regimental soldiers, those rough men Orwell spoke about, keeping our nation safe by taking the fight to our enemies. Thank God for the 327th Infantry Regiment.

A fellow soldier forever,
Joseph E. Honrath, Jr. LTC, Infantry (Retired)

I would like to personally thank all of you, who have been kind enough to respond to my requests about Jon "Little Jon" Honrath (kia 8-17-67). I was able to connect a few of you who were Jons squad mates, with his surviving family. I will be giving Jon a special recognition at our high schools 40th reunion on July 26, 2008. Again thank you for your help, and your brave service to our great country.

I was a door gunner with the 176th AHC (Minutemen) from April 67 thru Nov. 67 . We supported the IST Brigade on all the operations of Task Force Oregon. (Benton, Hood River, Cook and Malheur1 & 2)... Just wanted to say what an honor it was flying you guys in and out and helping when we could.
I was aboard one of two slicks that pulled out about 18 KIAs sometime in mid to late Oct. of 67. I cant recall what battalion or company. I was hoping someone from that time period could fill me in on what happened that night. Does anybody remember Col. Loughton?

Recently, I had the honor of being the graduation speaker for a US Army Ranger graduation at Fort Benning. Seeing those young men standing in formation and proud of what they just accomplished is absolutely awe inspiring and yet another example of the professional Army we have as a nation. God bless our troops and God bless America!!

Hello all, served with B/2nd/327th from July 67-
Sept 68. Saw Dale Michael Grabbs (Sept 68-Sept 69) mention of Plt.Sgt. from B/2nd/327th known as
"Big Daddy". We had a plt. sgt. (Willie Sigler)known as "Big Daddy" during the latter part of my tour in 67-68. Could be the same person.

Loughton?

Good job on the new website.
I served with D, 2/327th, Dec 68-Nov 69 as 1st platoon leader then as XO the last four months.
I am writing some true short stories about Brett Crandall; Sam the Kit Carson Scout; SFC Robert Ray Fry; Louis Ortiz; Mick Rupe; LT Raymond R. Piseno Jr; Sgt Thomas Hempel; Hill 88; the battalion size cordon of Phu Bai 3 that started on or about March 20, 1969; and Firebase Fury. Any knowledge or photos of these would helpful.

I proudly served with 2/327TH in HHC SCOUT PLT. In 2003, I was with some of the finest men, I have ever known. My wife died in a car wreck during my deployment. I was sent back home to fight a whole different battle. I was now, a single father raising our two children. I will never forget the support I received from my brothers in arms. I will always and forever thank them. There is one person whom I want to get in contact with. 1st Sergeant Minicozzi, Todd. If you have some information on how I might could find him, please post it. Thanks, SCOUTS OUT!

Great work guys, as always. I know that building and maintaining a web site can be a monumental task, especially when it has over 750 pages. It boggles my mind. I think combining the two sites into one was a good idea.
I hope everyone will take advantage of the blog once we have it up and running. Yankee Jim needs a little breather.

Way back then in 1961 I went to Ft Benning for jump school. After pushing Ft.Benning a couple of inches into the grown from doing push-ups I graduated and was assigned to 101st 327 Battle Group.(Above the Rest)which changed later to 1st Brigade. I was then assigned to HHQ 2/327 (Second to None). I went through all of the Swift Strike war games.
During Ranger school in 64, I pushed Ft. Benning further into the ground, I was sent back to HHQ 2/327. In 65 I was deployed with the 1st Brigade to Nam via the BOAT. On board I was assigned a daily duty of cleaning the stairwell down to the mess hall on the SS Gen. Leroy ElTinge. Spent 65-66 the sent back to Ft Campbell HHQ 506.
Discharged in 1967 due to being medically removed off of jump status.

As Chairman of the Board of the 101st Airborne Division Association and a former Fort Campbell and Vietnam 327th Trooper I would like to remind everyone that the 101st Reunion will be in Reno, NV this August 13-17, 2008. I am setting up a World War 1 re-enactmentgroup. When I started in 1999 I was a glider Infantry man of the 82th. In our group TRIPLE A (101st) I am the only 327 GIR re-enactor, dedicating my BAR to Phil Hooper, a ww2 veteran. I was amazed that in ww1 327 belonged to the 82th, later to the 101st. Now I am even more amazed that it is still a active unit.
Keep on doing the good work. Warm regards!

I was on Firebase Airborne three times in 1969. Every time I was there something weird happened. The first time I think a guy got struck by lightning, the second a lotch helicopter crashed and burned, and the third time a chinook helicopter crashed and burned dropping a fuel cell. All this in addition to the confusion that was on the base because the night before a bunch of Vietcong tried to overrun the place. It was a scary place.

All this in addition to the confusion that was on the base because the night before a bunch of Vietcong tried to overrun the place. It was a scary place.
