Good Day,

84-86 I served in Co.C (ABN) 5/327th INF, Ft.Richarson, AK. The 327th was part of the 172nd. Co C, 4/5/6 were ABN units. When the 172nd deactivated in 86 and became the 6th Light INF BDE what became of the three ABN companies? I thought they became part of the 82nd, am I correct? If so, what BDE?

I was with 2nd-327th E-Co from March 1970 thru April 1971. First half with FDC (MOS 11C) on T-hawk and Phu Loc District. I was at Phu Loc when the sappers hit T-hawk in June 70. I later transfered to Headquaters as (MOS 11B) and was back on T-hawk most of the time.
I am friends with a Vietnamese couple that came to the States in 64, now retired, he is from Hue and she is from Saigon. He sends me news about Vietnam. Maybe some day we can get back there. Now a lot of the AO along the Gulf has turned into resorts.

My father was in the 327th, Co.D. 82nd Div when the Division was formed in WW1. He was with it all the way until after the Armistice when he came home from France. They were in St. Mihiel and the Argonne offensive, Marboch sector.
He took pride in the unit. He rated Corporal.
They went through the "thick of it" all through the war.

I was in Nam aug 70 aug 71, E company 2/327 mortars. Nick name Buddha. while in Nam, I got a Huey tail rotor chain. I have worn it for over 34 years. the only times it has come off my wrist was if it needed some TLC. been through several operations. the docs said take it off. I say it doesnt come off. my shrink at the VA says its my guilt from Nam. maybe it is but now it is in bad shape. I have been at the flightline at Fort Campbell during the last reunion and asked all the mechanics it they have a piece of chain. none of the crews had one. I have contacted many other places but none had any. I am asking if my brothers know of anyone who may have a piece of of rotor chain. I need about 8 inches. it would mean a lot to me and my guilt to find the chain. if anyone has a piece call my home 973 839 2208 Thanks Welcome home

I read a message from Robert (Bob) Keck from Tampa, FL. I commanded Charlie Company during the period of May 1967 to September 1967 and if Bob is interested in connecting with fellow 327th troopers he should join the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the 101st Association. They have a great Chapter with about 100 members. I have just recently moved from Tampa to Pompano Beach and I am a member of that chapter. The people to contact are Dick Pack at e-mail ranger.pack@verizon.net or call (941) 722-1330 he is President of the Chapter or call, e-mail Jack Noland as he is our Chapter Secretary. His info is e-mail jnolan7@tampabay.rr.com, tele (727) 797-7706. You can also call me at (954) 532-0722. NFS!!

Cco.Dco. 1-327th 2001 to 2005. I like the fact that they have a site so that vets can contact each other, i dont like how most of the pics of the Iraq War are of the the General or some Col. What about the guys that were actually out there doing the fighting? What about the guys who were there on day one? Perhaps you need an area where people can submit pics if you dont have any. And who the hell is this Tiffany chick and who are all those guys in those pics, sure dont look like infantrymen, why are they on the page? Perhaps you should get some Infantryman putting pics on instead of some support group. Makes sense right? It would be nice for soldiers to come to our battalions page and relive some memories, not come here and see absolutely nothing. Page is WEAK!!!

First I hope everyone has happy holidays.
I was medic with C co 2/327 in 1967. Was thinking about my Vietnam experience this morning. I had Malaria and came back out to the field to soon, one day I could not keep up and fell behing on a long hump. A member of the platoon stayed behind with me, I often wonder what happened to him, His name was Cole, and he was from Michigan. Obviously we made it and caught up with the rest of the guys. I also had some friends in the medical clearing station in the rear area, Lynch was from NJ,Gudlap from RI, Dostal and a guy whose nickname was Fannie,I am pretty sure the last 2 extended to go to the LRRP platoon. I would apreciate hearing from anyone who knows anything about any of these folks.

Over the holidays I was looking at all the photos on the web site. The 39mm anti-aircraft gun that was in the rear area Camp Eagle brought back some memories. I was walking slack for Benavidez when he found the cache. We marked up all the boobie traps with t.p. Benavidez told me it was going to turn into a easter egg hunt and the further away from the cache we could get the better. By the time the day was over we had loaded eight people into one medivac. Ill never forget the look of fear on the face of the pilot of the slick when we loaded that gun into his bird the next day. Our Kit Carson scout assembled the gun the next time we were in the rear for a stand down.
Now on to new memories, I have talked with or have contact information for the following members of the 3rd Platoon 68 & 69. Alva Shirley, Martin Hoogterp, Arvest Sparks, Freddie Fulford,
Henry M. Johnson, Cliford Gibson, Lennie Naughton, Roger Kinzer, James Gilbeaux, Rod Ledger, Tom Murrary, Doc. Olson, Micheal Guest, and Doug Bergman. We are still looking Rebel Tom Odom, Benavidez, Garcia, and Chavez and many more. Call or email with information 904-613-2440

Since finding this website and posting my entry yesterday, I have roamed around the site and noted several entries and a page by Donald (Curly) Jackson of Texas, who died in a motorcycle accident on July 4 of this year, and a page by Garry Wilhelmi (of Iowa, I believe). Curly and Garry were both in my platoon. Curly was a first-rate soldier. Did everything that was asked of him and never complained. He was popular and respected by all. Garry was my RTO and had important talents. He could light two cigarettes while calling for mortar illumination whenever we blew a bush during those rainy nights in Phu Loc District. He could also climb trees to take azimuths back to Roy or Tomahawk when we were up in the mountains during dry season. Best wishes to Curlys survivors and to Garry. I also found Robert Kellers name in the roster. Bob had second platoon when I had third. Weve since exchanged emails and I sent him a picture of the two of us that I had in an old album. Truthfully, I dont think about those days very much, but this has been an interesting look backward, and I want to thank the guys responsible for the website.

I was the platoon leader of 3rd Platoon, Charlie Company, 2/327 from October 1969 to May 1970. My first night ambush was on the railroad tracks at Nuoc Noc on Halloween night, 1969. My Platoon Sergeant was Nelson Morris. After being Platoon leader, I commanded E company until I derosed at the end of August. I was responsible for the recon platoon, the snipers, the mortars, and defense of the TOC. To those guys who were writing about the attack on FSB Tomahawk in June, as I recall the CO was Cox. The First Sergant was a lifer named Dearman. To all of you, I say "No Slack!"

On this 2008 Veterans Day I would just like to say "thank you". No matter what our political beliefs or opinions on the war in Iraq one thing is always true, we are the greatest nation in the world ONLY because of the great men and women who serve or have served in our military.

Ive searched and searched and still cannot find a soldier I was in Bootcamp with back in 98. His name was Henry Johnson III. We were in Airborne bootcamp in Ft. Jackson, SC and probably graduated in Nov 98. I know that in the early 2000s, he was working on a base in North Carolina, and was in touch with him, but we lost touch. Hes probably about 28-30 yrs of age, married and last I heard had a daughter early in the 2000s when I visited him in NC. Id really like to know if he is ok. Thanks! Please email at john.regan@prnewswire.com if anyone has any info.

I am very proud to say that I am the daughter of Joseph J Dayoc of the 101st Airborne Division. Joes kids in Texas were isolated from our father thanks to his wife Marilyn--she refused his dying wish to be buried with his son, Vincent @ Ft Sam Cemetary in SA Tx--a desire of his for his lifetime--not to mention--she married him to defy and dishonor him. His children in Texas miss and love him with all that we have--my info is posted if you want to know the truth. And one thing for sure--my daddy was a hell of a soldier

Went to Nam on the Leroy Eltinge with the 1st Brigade, 1st Battalion/ 327th Infantry. Was in the 4 deuce mortar platoon in Headquarters Co. Operated mostly with A Co. as RTO for Sgt. Bobby R. Salt. Anyone remember him? We also went out with Tiger Force.

It is interesting how Tiger Force was created. Back at Cambell in the old army each battalion in their Headquarters Co. had a ground radar platoon and something called a Davey Crocket platoon. The Davey Crocket platoon was a mortar platoon with atomic warhead capability. The guys in these platoons had highly specialised skills. Both of these platoons were designed for use in Europe. In Nam the radar wouldnt work in the jungle. It was designed for the plains of Central Europe. The army wasnt going to use tactical nukes either.

The troopers in both of these platoons were used to form the original Tiger Force for battalion recon. Needless to say they were less than pleased to become ground pounding line animals.

Been on this site for years. Served with Company C 2nd battalion 1st squad 1st platoon NO SLACK. Found several squad and platoon members and have had contact. Its great to talk the talk with men(boys)who I served with. I remember coming off Bach Ma Mountain on the north slope when we encountered a 500 lb unexploded bomb just sittin there along a small fast moving stream. A monkey was sitting on it. Strange how memories come back in spurts and such. I believe, but not sure, we told some dudes on Camp Eagle and they had some engineers blow it to keep the gooks from getting at the good stuff............davidwilliamson AKA BLUE

I was with C Co., 1st Platoon, 1/327th in 69-70. Its almost 40 years ago and theres not a day goes by that I dont think of my brothers and what we went through. I feel so guilty because I can still see their faces but cant remember all the names. Everyone had a nickname, usually given to a "cherry" by someone who had been in the field for awhile. My mentors were Nevin "Zeke" Warner from Montana, Dennis "Gip" Gipson from Texas and Jerry Gallaway from Utah. Thanks guys for teaching me how to stay alive, youre always in my prayers. Also Johnny Meggesey, Lopez, D.J. Alexander, Willie Stokes, Pineapple, I love you all. Is anyone out there? Id be very greatful to hear from anyone. I got Malaria towards the end of my tour and was Medevacd out of the AShau. Never got the chance to say goodbye. Jimmy "the Greek" Austin, Royal Palm Beach, FL.

Erick here again: Gary, you can forgive yourself for being medevacked that day. You paid your dues up to that minute and afterwards in the hospitals trying to heal. That could have been Travis Shattle and me lying up there shot to pieces and full of shrapnel. You and Mike might have saved our lives by taking over point at that particular moment. We will never know. Sgt Hensley and I may not have always gotten along, but I have all good memories about you Gary. It was a pleasure to serve with you. Welcome home brother! Thanks for your service! Erick

No Slack Sarah Orban,

That was me that stopped a few days ago because of your NO SLACK yard signs. I want to thank you and your husband for your service. I am proud of what you and yours are doing.

Our meeting happened so quick, I failed to remember the first name of your husband and which company in the 2/327th he serves in. Please give him our regards. Tell him about the web site and guest book you found at .

We also have an active elist with several hundred 101st veterans participating and/or monitoring. It is hosted by Yankee Jim Simchera and he will sign you up if you request. The active duty men and women are encouraged and invited to check it out and participate if so desired. His email address is

My husband is currently serving a 15 month tour in Iraq, and we have a couple of signs in our yard. They are bright yellow No Slack signs that also say that I love my screaming eagle. I show these signs in support of my husband and his fellow soldiers. I used to be a soldier myself at Fort Campbell, but I was in an MP company, 194th MP of the 716th MP BN. We met in the military, and between the two of us in the last 3 and a half years, we have done 3 tours in Iraq. We are excited to both be civilians again, but the 327th has been pretty good to my husband. These signs affect people in different ways. Sometimes I go outside and they are knocked down or across the yard because of people who do not support us. Then for the first time today, a man stopped in and told me he was surprised by the sign and had to do a double take, so he turned around and stopped in. He said he was in the 327 years ago in Delta company. I believe he said his last name was Carpenter, sorry if I have mistaken this name or spelled it wrong. I really appreciated his short visit, it was nice to see that people still respect and support our military members. I believe that many people, more the younger generations, take for granted their freedom because they have never see first hand what people fight for to get that freedom. Times have changed, and now the government has to beg for people to join by using incentives and bonuses. When just a few decades ago, it was normal for everyone to serve a few years, and the draft was used. Now days the draft is treated like the plague, and soldiers have to be stop loss to fulfill the numbers for the war. My husband was supposed to be out of the army last november, but he was kept on active duty for a 15 month deployment and left only 2 weeks after our first son was born. If more people were willing to fight for freedom and serve even a few years in the military, my husband would be here right now. I am glad that both of us have served for our country and fought for freedom, but I would like to see it mandatory for everyone to serve even just one year in the military. Its only one year of someones life, and we all know that one year goes by so fast! Anyways, I appreciate the 327, and the people who serve our country as well as those people who support our troops!

I absolutly love this website. My uncle was Donald "curly" Jackson. He served in VietNam in 69-70. He lost his life on July 4th 2008. I wish he was still here with us. I miss him terribly. My heart is broken. I loved to talk to him and listen to his stories about VietNam and his "buddies" from his platoon. He loved you all dearly. He also loved his country and had said several times that if he could do it again he would. I want to say thanks to all the guys and gals that have served in our armed forces. I am eternally grateful for your sacrifices. May GOD BLESS and forever hold you in his hands and give you peace. If anyone knows my uncle, would you please email me. I would love to here stories about him. When he died, so did all the information that he took with him. People my age and our children need to keep your memories alive. I would love to here all the stories that i can from anyone that knew him. Thanks again all Veterans for my freedoms.

Hey

Just to say hello and let you know that Eric was my Uncle and I mourn his loss each day since 1967. He has always been a hero in my life as I was 8 when he was killed. What a lean man he was, went to boot camp and came back a man with honor in his eyes for his comrades and his country.

There are so many things I wanted to know about him and I still hear my dad keeps in touch with Terry Whiley. How great that Terry came back with Eric to be with us all. If you remember him, have photos of him or can just say hey please let me know.

Know that you are all a part of that day, a part of his life and yes a part of his death.

God Bless

To BG Hodges
Dear Sir, I saw your post on the 327infantry.org guestbook and recognized your name immediately. Your leadership as a company commander left an indelible mark on my life as a soldier and greatly influenced my developing leadership style. You knew how to pull the best out of us and made us proud of doing it.
It was late Nov 86 when I reported to Cold Steel, you and Skeletor {1LT McKree?} came in from the field all muddy and tired, {I guess that happens when you lead from the front} and even though you were busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest you took the time to welcome the new guy. You told SSG Preston E. Holmes to look after me and get me settled in. I became 1SG Rosados driver and you gave me the freedom to do what it took to get that old jeep back in usable condition. You even gave me an Army Achievement Medal for making it through an entire deployment through the mudfields of Arnold Airbase. While prepping the jeep for a new paint job I had sprayed red primer on all the bare metal and sharp corners and just my luck we got alerted to the field before the darn thing could get repainted. Col Haluski saw us and from a distance I heard him asking you about our camouflage having red stripes in it. I dont know how bad you got fussed at but all you said to me was some praise for using initiative and taking care of our equipment, adding that I should get it fixed as soon as possible. I still have my lateral promotion to corporal orders when you made me an NCO and I proudly wore my stripes for the first time at our company dining in. How many company commanders would take an evening off in the middle of a 14 day field exercise and bus our families and girlfriends out to meet us for a weenie roast?, I remember when you did. You gave me my first fire team under SFC Smith in 3rd Herd with Sgt Glass and Cpl Bertram. The training was never easy but you made us feel like we could do it and have us asking for more.Years later I answered the phone at battalion HQ when you called to talk to our commander. Although time had passed and you commanded a battalion of your own you remembered one of your old soldiers and asked about my family.
Ive had commanders that would be offended by what Ive said here. They would be outraged that a lowly Sergeant would dare presume to say well done to a General Officer but frankly I dont think they have much to worry about. While in your command you made us feel more like we were serving with you than under you so I know you will accept this letter for the simple thank you that it is. Under your command, Duty Honor Country was tangible and Above the Rest was a way of life.
William H Moyers SGT USA RET

I have a tatoo of an Eagle in his talons in a Viet Nam service ribbon shaped like a circle. I miss the guys in my platoon think of them all the time. Ive been to 4 reunions but never met any one I knew.

I was in Mortar Battery of the 327th Infantry but was discharged on
March 28th, 1963. Most of my friends went to Viet Nam but since they
reformed the unit into a battallion I dont know what happened to the
men of Mortar Battery. Were they transfered out or were they part of
the 1st Battalion? Does any one know how I can find these guys?
While I cant remember most of the names I would know them if I saw a
list or pictures.

I was stationed at the 8th RRFS in Phu Bai from May 69-May 70. My good friend Perry Schexnaydre was on a mission with the 1st/327th that landed in Cam Ranh and secured targets up country for engineers to build bridges etc. prior to Tet 68. He would like to attend a future reunion. How can he become a member of this website or find out info regarding when and where future reunions of the 1st/327th in Viet Nam will be held? Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can give me with this.
Sincerely,
Mack Aldridge

He passed away in 1979, and Id lie to find out anything I can about him or his unit as he never shared his much of his experiences with me, his son.

Thank you for any information about this unit, even if you didnt know him.

Been part of this site for a number of years and still enjoy all the men and their comments. Altho I do not agree with some, most are on the money. What Viet Nam did to me, I have yet to figure out. Two tours and for what? Got a busted leg and am getting a hip replacement soon and a bit of that old PTSD but it is my brothers, thats why I did what I did. God Bless America and 327th Regiment soldiers all.... past and present.
