I come back often to see if anyone is asking about my Dad CSM Joseph John Dayoc..Jr. what a soldier. He has passed away but I have heard from many soldiers since then that he was a mentor..and a mans soldier..He loved the army,,he loved his troops, and we were so proud of his service to our country. I miss him everyday. I see things on TV..and can hear his voice in the background, expressing his dislike for our situation today. I just want to continue to honor him however I can. I love him dearly. He was always my hero.

I am so grateful to have found this site. My daddy passed away last september at 62. I had no idea he was beginning to search for his brothers in the 101st...I found he wrote on this site...
"My name is Marion Bush I served with 1-327 HHC Mortar plt June 1967 - June 1968
I worked as gunner and FDC section (Chief computer) for the 4.2 mortar section, I joined the plt as a PFC left as SGT E5 I am very proud of my service and the Men I served with. " I also found a picture of him here and you don't know how much it means to me. My Daddy was a wonderful man, and excellent soldier and I'd give anything to have him back. God bless you all for your service. Anyone who remembers or fought beside Marion Bush please feel free to contact me -Love

Found video shot by an Army film crew that went on the operation to the Fury AO in April, 1971. Go to criticalpast.com and search for A Shau. There is no sound but the film is pretty high quality.""

WOW. What a find. Thanks. That is A co. 1/327th. I was the RTO for 1st platoon. We secured Fury for a 3 day artillery support mission that was going to go on in the Ashau. I remember very well and I recognize the guys that are getting off the birds and the group standing around when the camera pans Left to Right. That was 1st platoon.
I don't ever remember cameras being around at all.
I also have pictures of some of it that completely coincides with some of the video.
Awesome,
Thanks for posting this.

Hello,
My dads name was Don Cisar and he was a Vietnam Veteran...A very proud one at that. He never talked much about it, I can think of only a few stories in all my years. One had to do with Christmas Eve 1970, which was very bad, and another was about how him and the guys used to pull pins on grenades, hold them and see who could get them to blow up in the air. He said they would do that for "fun". Dad has since passed away due to a heart attack. April 23rd 2010. It was kinda coincidental that he left for the Army on April 23rd 1970, forty years to the day. Anyways, my mom, brothers and I were going through some of his things this weekend and came across some of his Vietnam items. I picked out an old "ABU Assassins" Zippo lighter.

Pops, as us and the grandkids, called him was a member of the A Company 1/327th Infantry 101st Airborne Division. He served from '70-71. Some of the guys I know of from his pictures were Allen Libbert, Buck and Drill. Him and Al Libbert have always kept in touch over the years and this year my mom received a very nice memorial book about dad along with pics from their time serving their country.

South Dakota dedicated a Vietnam Vetrans memorial, a few years back, in Pierre. Dad & mom went to the dedication ceremony and even got a ride in a Huey. Mom, being the team player she is (and petrified of heights) was right by dads side in the chopper. That chopper ride was very theraputic for him and it was shortly after that that he told of the Christmas Eve 1970 story. I could not imagine going through that, or what any of you went through.

Thank you to all of you for all of your sacrafices and heroism. I salute you all!!

I love you and miss you Pops."

Topher,

I did not know your dad but I was there when he was and in the same company. As Paul said prior that Christmas Eve 1970 was a very bad day along with Christmas the next day. If you would like to know more about that day feel free to contact me by email or 714-335-4557.
If I saw a picture, then I would maybe remember him.
When we were there, we were almost always out in the jungle in our platoons patroling or on a firebase pulling outer security and really never got to know many of the others except maybe on Eagle Beach when we got to spend a few days there. Of course most of us didn't remember much when we were there.
Good for you to honor your father with his service and thank you for letting us know about our brother going to sit with Jesus.

Our anniversaries are close together bro. Your story is real and I know you honor those brothers that perished.
The Christmas eve 1970 friendly fire accident just past and I was able to get past another year of celebrating the lives of 12 brave brothers that perished that day.

Today January 24th, 2011 I sat here all day remebering this same day 43 years ago. I was with my "ABU" Brothers in Phuoc Long Province at a place called Song Be. We had walked into a Regimental NVA Bunker complex. All hell broke loose.
Today I sat here remembering our Fallen Brothers:
Jon Grimmett, Fayetteville N.C., John R. Favor, Flint Michigan, George J. Holly III, Las Vegas , Nevada, William W. McClendon Jr., New Orleans, Louisiana, Ernest Patrick Palcic, New York,NY.
I can't recall the names of all our Wounded Brothers , as it has been so Long AGO.
May we never forget the Scarafice they all made all those years ago for all of us.
I also sat here thinking of my Best Friend who was also there with us Jim Grainger "Jungle Jim " who we lost last year in Tucson, Arizona. I missed calling him this year to consule him, as he broke down every January 24 when he would recall his friend Jon Grimmett and loosing him There ,all those years ago.

I know that during those two to three days the NVA had us All pinned down and surrounded that All of us thought that would be our last Firefight in Nam.
We can only thank God that he had Blessed us with Capt. Julius Johnson. Capt. Johnson Saved us from being totally over run and wiped out as an Infantry Company !
I know that last day trapped there I had looked around that morning and I saw the realization on everyone's face that We were not going to Walk out of there. Yet we All had the look of Resolve also on our faces that we were going to go down fighting "TOGETHER". I could see it on every Brothers Face that I could see from my position. They, We had prepared ourselves to meet "OUR DESTINY". We were Ready for the Final Fight, The last Battle of Our Lives.

My Fears were No Longer there , as I looked around at my Brothers. They were washed from me. I knew that I was where I was supposed to be. With who I was supposed to be with. These were My Brothers. We would have Each Others Backs until the Last of us Fell. A calm came over me , and I did not Fear what lay ahead that day.
Capt. Julius Johnson called in everything available to him,Except "BROKEN ARROW" and by some unknown Miracle the NVA ended up hunkered down ,and allowed us to get away to fight Many a More Day ! We carried our dead and wounded Brothers Out, With Us, NO Brother was Left Behind !
We Humped most of that day to hook up with C-Company and the extra man power and fire power they afforded us.
I pray that All of Us that went on to Return Home have never forgotten the Price our Brothers paid there.
I pray We All have lived the kind of life Our Brothers were never afforded !
I pray they All have been with our Lord and Savior for all these years.
I Truly Pray to see them All again someday and hold them all Close Once Again !

ABU/ ATR
We were Young
We were Warriors
We are Brothers, Forever !

Does anyone remember medic Doc Vazquez, he wsa killed in Dok To in June I think it was on the 6th anyway it was the last time I had a true friend. We left him and the trooper he was trying to save. We pulled back to a better position on the next hill. We had to hump down the mountian so they Could carpet bomb the hill. We went back the next day to clean up and recover the bodies. I was the one that put doc in tha body bag. Thats when every thing changed thanks. Wild Bill

I will be going in June to interview some of the combatants we (2/327) faced in the area around Trung Luong, June 19-23, 1966. Additionally, my contact is attempting to locate any of the civilian POW's that the 1/327th, Tiger Force liberated in September, 1966. I will be videotaping the interviews as well as stills of Tuy Hoa and Villages at Trung Luong. This research is part of my next book about the Phu Yen Province and the determined effort by the north in that part of the country. Phu Yen had been a Revolutionary hotbed since the 1930,s. As a side light, my research found that the Phu Yen Province had over 33,000 NVA and local VC (all types of units) during the 1966-67 timeframe.

Dear sirs,
I am a vietnamese, living and working in Germany.
After 30 April 1975 (End of the Vietnam War) I had left Vietnam with my family as boat people in 1980. I am looking for information about an american red hat adviser of the 11th airborne bataillion of ARVN. His name is Duffy. Most south vietnamese people in my ages have known this name : He is our hero of the war.
" Duffy, the best friend of 11th paratroopers in the famous battle over the Hill Charlie in the Eastern Offensive 1972 !"
I would very appreiate you sirs, when you could research about this US-red hat and let me know whether he still lives ?
Thank you sirs

First time at this site, and for the short time I've been here it looks like a great site. What I remember best was when I moved into the motor pool hooch was, I was the only guy from north of the Mason/Dixon line. Learned real quick what country western music was. Don't have much time now to look at all the replies, but plan on reading all that I can. If you remember me, please email me and shake up this bad memory that I have.

I remember Christmas of 1966. We were near Kontum. I think there was a cease fire but we (1st platoon C company 1/327) had to go on patrol. I guess it was to make sure the other guys lived up to it. It was an uneventful patrol but we came upon a wide river with some native canoes/kayaks. A couple of us try to take them out in the river but they immediately sank under our weight. It's not that we were so heavy it's just that these boats were made for small people.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

Hello,
My dads name was Don Cisar and he was a Vietnam Veteran...A very proud one at that.

I love you and miss you Pops.

Sincerely,
Topher Cisar

I am the wife of a Nam vet. He was in the Army Special forces. When I married him 11 years ago he told me he was a Nam Vet. So I read all I could find by those who were there. I came across this book called Wings of the Eagle by W.T.Grant. Well anyways he told about a CWO by the name of David Allen Poley. aka "The Dave" He was KIA on Mar.9,1969. Some how through Grants words, I came to really like him and connected with him when I read about him. My birthday is May 17,1960 and his was May 19, 1946. It was so cool that we almost shared the same DOB. well anyways...just wanted to say thanks for all the Screaming Eagles and other outfits who was at war in the Nam war, protecting me while I played in the sandbox. I have created a yahoo group called Camp Eagle for those who are interested in it.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/campeagle/

Again thank you so much for what you did and what you all are still doing.... Keeping us safe and sound at home.

I knew Dan Dian and Sgt Cohen, and maybe some of the others. I was in the rear with a cast on my leg at the time. Their roster also does not include my friend, Arthur Weinper killed as a menber of Tiger Force.

First let me start with a thanks to all of you who served and your families. Second I was told by my father to do one thing whenever I met a Vietnam Veteran and that was to shake his hand and tell him welcome home. I know I do not have to explain the reasoning behind that to anyone who was there but for those of us who weren't this is for you. You shake their hand as a sign of gratitude for their service to this great nation and you welcome them home because unlike veterans from wars previous and almost all since they were not welcomed home by most but rather looked down upon and insulted as they departed the planes. I am sure that this was not always the case but you get my point. I am here because I need a favor and I truly hope someone here can help. My father served with HHC 1/327 inf. in '65 I think. I have heard him talk of a St. Michael medal that I do believe was attached to a cloth rosary that was given out to soldiers as they deployed to Vietnam. Well a few years ago I found the medal online somewhere but can not find anyone who seems to know anything about the rosary or how I might purchase one. If anyone has any knowledge about the rosary or how I might get one please contact me. I would love to get this for him for Christmas but if not that is OK as long as I can get one eventually I will be happy. For those who are wondering or might even have served with him his name is
Douglas Arnold. Thank you again for your service and your help. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!

TO the family, friends and loved ones of those who are serving in the Armed Forces When they return, please try to be loving, understanding and patient, during the hard times that both they and you still have to face. When you feel they may not be as close, loving and trusting as they once were, don't take it personal.Try to be loving, understsnding and patient. When try steart having problems at home, work,or the"Normal Surroundings" of yesteryear,be loving, understanding and patient. When they seem to be pushing things to the very for no reason,be loving, understanding and patient. When you find youselves asking them"What's Wrong?" and they answer"I don't know."Don't take it personal;try to understand that they realiy don't know. Most importent, when they say you will never know or understand how they feel, accept that and simply be there for them through thier struggles. I know that I'm asking alot. When life asks us to give love, understanding and patience unconditionally,it seems impossible. They are reliving moments of a time and place that belongs only to them. They have had to make split seconds decisions in a world foreign to them that went against every thing that they where ever taught. It is those decisions that have created an inner turmoil in which they can get lost.Don't let them live through those struggles alone.Whithout help it ccn and will destroy both your lives. There is hope.they are not alone.Veterans all over the world feel what they feel. This may be "Post Ttraumatic Stress Disorder".Become educated about this. There are groups in and out of the V.A.who help us to deal and understand some of this and Stand by them Forever No Slack

I was surprised to see the pictures of Lt Mason and the Headquarters sign and more. I have great memories of one day that Lt Mason and I went to Bein Way and crossed the river on a barge. I didnt get to go anywhere and see much of Viet Nam for the entire year I was there. That is why the day was so special and still is in my memories. Thanks to Lt Mason for making that day possible. I would love to hear from him and any other person that I spent time with. It would be great. I am not sure if he remembers me as well as I remember him.

Not an actual member of 1/327, but I do have good friends with this outfit and am honored to know them. I served 1967-69 in Dong Ha, Khe Sanh (the Siege), Quang Tri and DaNang with USNCBMU-301, with the 3rd Marine Div. and 26th Marines, I-Corps area at the DMZ. I was one of the guys responsible for runway building and maintenance, bunkers and reinforcement, concrete artillery pads, bridges, etc. I was rated a Heavy Builder Petty Officer 3 and was 2nd Squad Ldr of Charlie Co for 301. I was a member of forces sent to Khe Sanh just before the battle began, with Detail Bravo, to keep the runway repaired and open. That became a deadly task when being fired on night and day, and the runway finally got blown away badly enough planes could no longer land. Our only means in or out was by chopper and under fire all the way. I have been through this site, and am impressed with the history and pictures found here. Thank you for your service and sacrifices gentlemen, and I am very honored to be a guest here!

I have made several attempts to get information regarding the death of Michael Joseph Galbraith KIA 6/6/66. Michael was in 101ST Airborne Infantry 327th company A and lost his life on June 6th 1966 only 21 days after getting to Vietnam. From the dates and unit information he was KIA during Operation Hawthorn. The only documents I can locate talks of heavy contact on the 7th of June but as published on the 327th Memorials Michael and 5 others lost their lives on the 6th. Can anyone shed some light on what happened on the 6th? While his information printed states KIA, Hostile action, body recovered the only information we have was that his death was due to friendly fire (short round). My brother and I were Micheals friends in High School and since he was adopted, parents are long since gone, I am trying to gain deeper insight as to his sacrifice for all of us. We, as era Navy vets, are trying to get information to use to perpetuate his memory in our small upstate NY town. If anyone has any information as to what happened on the 6th of June 1966 during Operation Hawthorn in the Kontum Province, if you could share it with us, it would be greatly appreciated. As always God Bless you for your service and most assuredly God Bless America.

First and foremost thank you all for your service to our beloved country.

I am looking for those soldiers that served with Tiger Co, that may have known Michael Anderson. You see Mr. Anderson passed away awhile back and his wife Rowena, and daughters Nikole and Rachele have been trying to locate photos, and memorabilia from the time he served. I am currently active duty Marine and would like to put a "shadow box" together for them for this comming Christmas. I read his Bronze Star with "V" device citation, and would if at all possible get some additional help. I may be off as far as Mike serving Tiger Co, any help would be great.

Met former LT. Sheridan at the USO while returning home for R and R, the XO and later CO of A co. during '69 and '70. A pleasant treat to hear where my unit has been and to personally see where it is now. The little taste of first hand unit history just made me want to hear more of the 2-327th's past.

I Have been trying to locate some of the platoon leaders of that time. I was the PL RTO almost my entire tour. I do remember LT. Lorenzo. I had one that was short and squaty that I nicknamed Spanky cause he looked like Spanky from our gang tv series. Can't remember his name. I served around 4 differnt ones. Any help from anyone that may have some documents from that time that had LT's names would be helpful. Email me if possible.

Someone who meant a great deal to my older brother and I (both Vietnam Era Navy vets),SP4 Michael Joseph Galbraith,A CO, 1ST BN, 327TH Infranty,101ST ABN DIV, lost his life in Vietnam on 6 June,1966. Michael was my older brothers best friend and like a big brother to me and over the years my brother has done many things to perpetuate his memory. Most recently as we grew older Chuck and I have talked about what we, as fellow veterans, need to do to assure that those who gave all are never forgotten, I have begun to help my brother Chuck out with this effort. You see Michael was an adopted child of friends of the family and was one of our neighbors as we grew up. Both of his adopted parents are long since gone and neither my brother nor I want him to ever be forgotten.I am looking for anyone who has knowledge of how he lost his life on that day perhaps another within his unit or a Medic who saw to his body or aided in his evacuation. You see we only have rumors of friendly fire, a short round, which circulated at his funeral, as the cause of death and would really like to know what actually happened on the day of his demise.I realize that Michael had only been in country since 5 May, 1966 and that he may not have been well known but perhaps someone in this unit can provide us with information. Your assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated. As always, bless you for your service to this great Nation and most assuredly "God Bless America"!

In remembrance of one who didn't come home. Lt. Charles Thomas Jones was the platoon leader with C/1/327 in 1971 and was killed in Quang Tri 39 years ago today. It was said that he always told his men "there are those who remember" - he was right. I know there are thousands of us who are thankful for men like "LT"....for men like you and for our men serving today. So thank you all for serving. You are appreciated. You are remembered.

Can anyone tell me about 4Nov1970 when Capt. Robert Bennett, PFC Charles Hoffman, and Sgt. Joseph Soto from C/1/327 were killed - where did it happen and were their bodies flown into FSB Los Banos? Also what happened on 12Dec1970 when at least 10 men were killed from A/1/327? The Virtual Wall states it was a "misadventure".

Great site. I can smell burning bamboo and taste the unique taste of the water there. My achilles still hurt so I have that effect going. Very proud I served; collectively we halted the cancer of communisim in that region of the world. We had a window of opportunity, for the blink of time we were just the right age...we took it and served. --Shot in right calf, medic Pate fixed it, did not infect...no lost time since we did not move much just then. A rare time of carrying a rolled up poncho at all, shot through it into the butt...Pate and Lt Eklund pulled it out...don't think any of us enjoyed it. Laughing. Grenade to right side during an assualt; no idea where we were when that thing flipped me, but instantly back to the feet as if carrying a fountain drink and not wanting to spill a bit...another piece of those frags just may be making it to the surface at this very time, and it is minorly exciting after so many decades. Bad deal on a parachute jump (no idea of who to thank for getting me out of that little deployment), and a comma for a few days, then right back to work. No purple hearts, as they were refused, same as I saw other guys do for insignificant wounds. I remember a cigarette lighter we were given just prior to leaving, one of my daughters holds it now, it reads on the face: "America's Finest at Freedoms Frontier". Wow, did I wear out several pairs of boots for that honor. We were tired, right! ---I've had a great life as I hope others have as well...lustfull times, confused times, fortunate and earned...most things once wronged were gotten 'better'. I Cannot complain.

I am looking for any information on PFC Robert Charles Johnson, Co B, 2/327th, who died in battle, in Phu Yen Province, June 20th, 1966. I think his tour had just started when he was killed. His hometown was Kanakee, Illinois.

I myself served with Co. C, 1/327th, 1967-68 as an RTO. I was wounded in the Ashau Valley and sent stateside in May'68. Will see you at the next Reunion!

Something I recieved from Fay Chaney, said I should post it on the guestbook for all to see.

I had the honor of taking care of my uncle, my mother's brother until his death at 87 years in 2002. William Wilburforce Daughtry, Petersburg, VA (I believe you have him listed as Daughtery). He was in F Company 327th glider infantry, 101st. He was an amazing man, a man of great integrity. He did not talk a great deal about the war but he did tell me about being a guard when they brought the blindfolded germans to Gen. McAuliffe. He also told me he guarded the tent while the generals planned the invasion of Holland. If there are F company men I might possibly communicate with, I would be greatful to have this opportunity. If I can answer any questions you might have about my uncle I would be happy to do so. I have his medals and patch. I also have a book BASTONE The First Eight Days, Copyright 1946, First Edition published by Washington Journal Press.

Blessings,
Faye Chaney
