My name is Lawrence H. Thomas. I was in the third Platoon, third squad. Ssgt. Ramsey was my boss.
I joined the unit just after they left Phan Rang. I think it was April or May, not sure any more, anyway I was hit 11 Jan. ’67, AK47 damn near took off my right leg. I was the only one hit that day.
I was stuck in the medivac chopper all night because of the weather. They got me out the next morning and sent me to the 106th Gen. Hosp. in Japan. A couple of months later, a bunch of the guys joined me there. Gen. Westmoreland gave a lot of us Purple Hearts.
