My father and mother lived on their separate family farms in Orschot - near Eindhoven. In WW2, in Sept.1944 the men of the 101st Airborne liberated them. The rest of Holland was liberated in May 1945. Both of my parents (aged 16 &17 at the end of the war) always remarked at how wonderful the Americans were to them and their families. The men of the 101st became inspirational that my father decided that he wanted to emigrate to the US. They first moved to Canada but then moved to the US - always the goal. We arrived from Canada in 1963 through Detroit. I now live in WA State. Regrettably, my family never had the opportunity to have a conversation with anyone from the 101st. It never came up while I was growing up and, unfortunately our family never got the opportunity to personally thank them for their valiant efforts of liberation. I would like to take a brief moment and correct that and thank at least one living veteran while they still have sun on their face. Thanks for reading this.
