Hello, my great uncle (Philip Larry Nichols) served with Company B, 2d Battalion (Airborne), 327th Infantry, 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division.
He was a medic in company B during the battle of Trung Long (Hill 258) and went on to receive the Distinguished Service Cross. I read that he saved multiple men and carried wounded out of the killing zone.
Was just wondering if anyone had any other stories of him or pictures by any chance!! I read Louis M. McDonald’s article and he mentions Doc (medic) Philip Nichols during the fight. If anyone would like to know more about his personal life or what occurred after he went on to a different unit then feel free to email me. He went on to become a 2nd Lieutenant, Infantry Unit Commander but lost his life on November 2nd of 68 due to an explosive device (booby trapped) artillery round on a bridge. He is buried on my Farm which I walk past often when Hunting.
