Looking for HELP: I'm an honest, open-minded reporter visiting in the Clarksville/Fort Campbell area. I'm hoping to find Screaming Eagles who have gotten back from Iraq and collect their stories. I'm a really good listener and happy to speak on or off the record with anyone who wants to talk. All names withheld at soldier's request. I want to know the stories, and I want to protect the storytellers. Any help would be great. My e-mail address is mr_reporter@hotmail.com

I served in the original bunch of Currahees after our battalion was formed in 1967 and deployed to Vietnam in Oct. 1967. I became a 1st Brigade PIO and our battalion first PIO, and got to know all the fine 327th PIOs during that time. I served under Maj. Spangler (Brigade PIO). I would like to know if he is still living and in good health. He was one fine individual.

I have been searching for my old friend, SSG Art Campbell, one of the 327th PIOs and later in charge of the PIO Lab at Phan Rang. Does anyone remember Art and know where I might start looking for him.

Come check out our website: www.currahee.org. We have a good many Currahees who came from and went to the 327th battalions. If you have any info. on Art Campbell, please contact me.

PS: Dale, you guys have an outstanding website here. If any of your Screaming Eagles plan to attend the upcoming Week of the Eagles at Ft. Campbell in June, come by and visit with us at the Country Inn & Suites Hotel in Clarksville--our TOC.

Co B,1st platoon 2/327 was on FSB Berchtesgaden, when the NVA tried to overrun it on the morning of June 16, 1969 (this battle is usually listed as June 14th.Viet Nam was across the international date line & June 14th, U.S. time was June 15th in Viet Nam. The Battle took place on the night of June 15/16th, but didn't start until 4AM on the 16th.) We were pounded by mortar fire trying to blow up the TOC. Only 4 of us at the top of the hill (all in the same foxhole) & 7 others out near the point of the hill, made it through the night without being hit. Yet, I have never seen any article that even mentions we were fighting there that night.
If any of the other 10 survivors are out there, I would like to hear from them.

Found this site by accident, but what a great find. Everyone is to be commended on the development and maintenance of this endeavor. It is no small task and I greatly appreciate it. It has been a little unnerving to dig out the past but rewarding as well. Keep up the good work...:)

I have researched the roster and I could not find my name listed. I was in Company B, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry of the 1st Brigade of the 101st Airborne Brigade from November 1965 to October 1966. At one time, my company commander was Captain Hiser, I can not remember the others. I have a copy of my 201 file that verifies that I was assigned to the forementioned unit during that time. How can I have my name added to the roster? I also served on the M60 machine gun crew with Wise, Keller and Bradford for 6-8 months as an ammo bearer. Please inform me as to what I must do to be added to the unit roster.

I'm sorry, about this 2nd entry, but I found out from my dad, Walter Goodman, that he was with the 327th, and in A company. He mentioned something about being tied close to headquarters because he was also with the LRRP. Any help with the previous entry, and anyone who knows my dad would be VERY much welcomed!!! Thank you!

My dad was in the 101st in Vietnam. He doesn't talk about it much, but he mentioned him being with the "Widow Makers." He won't give me any specifics or details, but he has told me bits and pieces. If anyone has any more information about the "Widow Makers," I would greatly appreciate it. Please email me at lizzibell45@yahoo.com. GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!!

Glad I came across this site. It's been enjoyable but a little bit strange "catching up." God bless all the Eagles every where around the world. I had the great privilege of serving as a platoon leader in B Co, 2/327th while Chargin' Charlie Beckwith was the Battalion Commander. Colonel Beckwith died in 1995 in Austin, TX of a heart attack. From time to time, I've written Mrs. Beckwith. I joined the 2/327th during Tet and moved with the b
battalion to Firebase Panther, from which we could see into the City of Hue and watch the Marines battle to reclaim the City. We moved from there to Firebase Henry, which almost no one who wasn't in the Battalion has every heard of. It was a low hill on the Song Hue Trach and Highway 547 between Birmingham and Bastogne. At some point the Marines had been there and had salted the hill with powered CS. Everytime the artillery fired the CS came out of the ground and blinded all of us on the hill. I started out as the anti-tank platoon leader ... some of you may recall when we had 106 recoiless rifles mounted on jeeps. No enemy tanks around, but they made pretty decent bunker busters. Anyway, I was a green butter bar from Infantry OCS and airborne school . We went up Highway 547 and opened up Bastogne before a side trip north to LZ Jane and environs during the relief of Khe Sanh. Following that, we air assaulted back onto Highway 547 and set out west towards the A Shau. That was in very late-April or early-May 1968. I think late-April since I was wounded and my platoon sergeant, SSG Oscar C. Gallegos of Alice, TX, was killed on May 11, 1968. I was medivaced home through Japan, the Phillipines and San Francisco. After changing branches to Signal Corps, I returned to the 101st in August 1970 as Battalion Signal Officer, 1/501st. Unfortunately for me, by then we were very short of infantry officers and I was pressed into duty as Assistant Operations Officer, Air, and Commander of first E Company and then HQ Company. We went down Highway 9 to the Rockpile and Khe Sahn and we were the first unit to DaNang to provide perimeter security when the last Marine units packed up for home. Sad to say, I wasn't good enough to bring all my guys home and there are three names on the wall that I visit with regularly. Living in Arlington, VA and working DC I have an easy time of it visiting The Memorial. I've not made much of an effort to keep in touch with my fellow vets. Maybe it's time to begin. We were soldiers once, but it seems as if we were never very young.

Just ran across this site and have really enjoyed "catching up." I had the privilege of serving as Anti-tank Platoon Leader and 3rd Platoon Leader, B Co, 2/327th from Jan - May 1968. Some of you may recall when we still had 106 mm recoiless rifles mounted on jeeps. There were no enemy tanks around but they made pretty good bunker busters. During that period Chargin' Charlie Beckwith was the Battalion Commander. Colonel Beckwith died of a heart attack in Austin, TX in 1995. I recall the move from Firebase Panther, overlooking the city of Hue where we could see the marines fighting to retake the city after Tet, to first Firebase Henry and then Firebase Bastogne. I was wounded and my Platoon Sergeant, Staff Sergeant Oscar Conando Gallegos of Alice, Texas, was killed on May 5, 1968 along Highway 547. I returned to Vietnam in August 1970 - August 1971 and was a Company Commander with the 1/501st. Even though both were great units, I will always think of myself as a member of the "No Slack" Battalion. God bless you all.
