On Wednesday, May 4th, the 101st, as well as all grunts through time, lost one of our true heroes with the passing of Col. David Hackworth.
Col. Hackworth spent more than half a century on the country's hottest battlefields and was one of the most highly decorated soldiers in the military.
Hack was awarded two Distinguished Service Crosses, ten Silver Stars, eight Bronze Stars, eight Purple Hearts, and was put in for the Medal of Honor three times.
David died of cancer caused from exposure to yet another terror inflicted upon all the grunts in Vietnam by our leadership. It's called Agent Blue.
In 1965, "Hack" knew company sized units moving through the jungle would not be very effective against a guerrilla army like the VC and NVA.
So he started units like Tiger Force. Small, quiet, camouflaged, field experienced volunteers who, as he put it, could out "indian the indians."
Col. Hackworth was the author of many books and has spent his life writing about the snares of Vietnam, Somalia and the Military-Industrial Complex.
David Hackworth was a fearless warrior. Brave, good, and wise who never wanted anything but to save his people. He will be missed by all.

The outfit puts together a couple of jumps a year, as guests of airborne units all over the world, from Russia to Chile, and all points in between. If you have, say, a cruise planned for your next vacation, consider, instead, blasting out of an Iluyshin-76 at 200 knots, with the Russian SPETSNAZ.
