I remember a few names; Cole, carried the M60, Grey was a RTO, I treated Groll for a sucking chest wound. I don't remember a lot of details, it was a long time ago, and I basicly was just following the guy in front of me. I would like to hear from anyone that I served with.

I wish to sincerely thank Yankee Jim,and Hannibal for helping me with everything. Without them and all the help that they gave me; I never would have found out the what, or where, about my brother's death. I did get some of my brother's medal's and some of his paperwork from the Army. You will never know what this has done for me. He deserved what little I could do to protect his memory. I would like to hear from anyone else that knew PFC Dennis Lamar Bunting,Machine Gun Crew, B Company-2nd Battalion 327th Infantry 101st Airborne Division. My son (Dennis Lumar) was named after my brother, and was born in the 10 day period between my brothers death (Sep. 17, 66) and his birthday (Sept. 27, 66) and I would like to have pictures from his time in Viet Nam, as well as letters from others who served with him. Thank You Doug Field from the bottom of my heart for the artical you wrote about "Hill 86" I never knew what my brother went through. He gave his all, as did all his brothers that night. God Bless You All!!

Today is October 28th. When I woke up this day in 1967 I was safe within a Tiger Force NDP. Earlier the day before 1st Platoon B Co. was ambushed and pinned down, ammo depleted, no Tac-Air or Arty in and around a rice paddy on an Operation in I Corps for nearly 6 hours. With the Platoon Sgt. useless from fear, the medic, Norm Bagley actually led the defense. With the rest of the Company deployed and engaged elsewhere...we were doing an end run around the NVA regulars or that was the plan, to come to the relief of the Company Command Group and another Platoon who were pinned down, too. Under heavy automatic weapons fire and having sustained heavy casualties we held on as best as we could; retrieving some wounded, recovering ammo from our KIA, and otherwise soldiering on. 2 days previous we re-supplied and got 3 cherries, who were all KIA later, sat out the monsoon night in a Firebase and humped a lot of klicks to get to where we'd be close enough on the 27th to hit the NVA. Besides the fear, I most remember the cold, and being harassed throughout the night by the NVA. Later in the day on the 27th, with the skies clearing, hearing the busting of bush and the cries of "Above The Rest" coming from the Tiger Force guys, I remember reaching into my fatigue shirt and kissing Airborne Mary. The amazing part was after securing our defensive positions, they got on line, laid down a base of fire and charged the NVA positions and recovered our men. I was an M60 gunner and I was down to maybe 40 rounds having gotten the ammo our survivors carried. Our other gunner, Caan was KIA and I had already used his ammo as well as a cherry named Stohl who carried an M79. Up to and including that night when Tiger Force came for us, I had never in my life broken a tear. Every year since, I go to mass and pray for my comrades and for myself.
No Slack!

Troopers, does anyone who deployed to South Vietnam aboard the USNS Eltinge in July 1965 recall getting their Ocean Crossing Card? If so, please contact me. Most everyone who crossed the 'big pond' by ship received one. I have seen a number of Ocean Crossing cards issued to troopers from WW II, Korea to Vietnam. I served in 3rd Plt., Co. A, 3-506th and later became our battalion PIO. On the trip over, I worked alongside our company clerk and helped issue these cards. I and many others in my orignal group have theirs and I can help you get a reproduction of yours, if you want it. If any of you reading this message served part of your tour with our 3-506th, please contact me, because we are searching for you. Jerry in Montana

Had the honor of serving with 3/327 for 2 years. I used to use the patch on my sleeve as motivation when times seemed tough, I'd look at it and think of the men who wore it before me, and what they had gone through and things always seemed to get better from there.
Thank you Brothers!
