I also served a brief time in 106 recoiless rifle section and mortar platoon.
After three years active and three years inactive reserve I joined the North Carolina Army National Guard. Served as a 2nd Lt in a mechanized infantry unit for a few years.
Went to IOBC at Ft Benning, GA
In January 1980 I went to Flight School at Ft Rucker, AL
After flight school I returned to North Carolina as a Scout/Attack platoon Ldr .
* Here I flew UH-1H, OH-58, UH-1C/M gunships, AH-1G Cobras, UH-60M BlackHawks.
In 1985 I went Active Duty Guard/Reserve ( Title 10 ).
Went to Aviation Officer Advanced Course at Ft Rucker. Served as an S4, Assistant S3 and Commander HHC of an Apache Attack Helicopter Battalion.
Retired as a Major in 1996.
