Don Bowers

B Company 1966 – 1967

8-24-07

B/2/327 mourns the death of one of it’s brothers today in the passing of Don Bowers. Don passed yesterday after a long battle with cancer, after having just moved to Salem Oregon.

Don was a machine gunner in second platoon of B-company, and pulled a full tour with us from August 6-66 till August 6-67. Don was well known in B-company for his ability with the M-60 and his many sprints to the front when the call was sounded for “gunner forward”. His tall lanky frame could be seen thrashing thru the bush at full speed with his gun at port arms, it was quite a sight for us all. Don after serving his tour as a “line dog” in the 101st, then returned to Fort Bragg, and on to helicopter school where he received his flight training and then back to Viet Nam as a helicopter pilot for two more tours as a warrant officer. Don never forgot his time with B-company and told me many times it made him a better pilot, having suffered the same life on the line as a grunt. Don was one of a kind and will be missed by all of us in B-company, so lift a glass in memory of Don Bowers, and his rendezvous with destiny.
