It is with regret that I post this notice of the passing of SFC. Fred Tregaskes (retired) B/2/327 1966-67. Fred passed on Monday the ninth, and will be buried this Friday with full military honors, in Kittanning Pa. Services will be held at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Kittanning. Fred served as platoon Sgt. in both 2nd and third platoons of B Company. He was one of the most respected NCOs in the company, and one hell of a soldier. He was severely wounded on June 27th 1967, and spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair. He paid a huge price for our country, but never complained and was an inspiration to us all. Fred was inducted as a DMOR in 2006 I believe, and worked tirelessly to help other Vets in his area. Those of us who were lucky enough to know and serve with him, will never forget our "Tiger-T" Fred Tregaskes. Rest in peace old comrade.

I used to be listed on the site, but could not find it. I was wondering if anyone from the 1/327th A. Co remembers our first night assault where they could not get us all in on the Lz's and we were pinned down for quite some time, it was the largest night time air assault and only 1 1/2 company got in and we had no help.
Thanks

In response to Brent Grosso who posted on this site: I'm Kenneth Chance and I remember you, Brent. I was just a cherry when I knew you. On July 19, 1968, we got ambushed and Rick King was killed - he was a team leader. Some of the names I remember are Cpt. Kanine, Doc Roach, Rod Phillips, Ron King, P.J. McCartt and Treas. We were in the Rhyno Valley when King got killed. We then went to the A Shau Valley. Delta Company was closer to the hill, so they went up and they lost a lot of troops. We went through a mine field at night to get out of there since we were surrounded by the NVA - the choppers rescued us in a safe area. We went in on a battalion stand-down for 3-4 days. If you want to call, my phone # is 641-672-8009.

Reading that book I can see why he did. A few years back his house was broken into and basically emptied while he was in the hospital. Out of everything, He was most disappointed about his photos from his time with some of you. Im basically the only family he has left and was hoping if any of you that served with him had pictures that youight be willing to send some to my email address so I could print them out for him. Thank you all so much for your service and for the books and papers that you have written to help me better understand the man I call Dad. Best wishes to you all!!!

I was with 3rd platoon A company 1/327 on Christmas 1970. The company CO was with our platoon and the artillery officer. They were setting up final defensive fire for the 24 hour cease fire. The Lt. of 2nd Platoon was a Lt. Smith. the location that he was suppose to be at was the highest hill of the ridge line where they were located; they weren't. The first round hit almost in the center of their camp, when 2nd platoon call the CO. there was 2 more rounds on the way.

Hello 1/327
My Name is P.John Windfelder.I am the nephew of
John,E Windfelder SP5/mos94 Tiger Force Who was attached to the 1/327th from late 67-71.
Johnny was KIA along with 33 other men (Mostly Tigers) Nov 28 1971 in Chinook ch47 (Playtex) Crash. The A/C was heading To or From LZ401?
Some reports say they got Tagged by VNA SAF some say Not.The report I tend to believe is from SAR 501 unit who took 3 days to reach the site (Under Fire) Lead by Mr J.L Hodges Only to find a Heart Braking Site.I would like to Thank The 501 Men for braking in and finding my Uncle John and the others lost that day from the 1/327th. Words cannot Express how grate full I am to the 501 Men!!
Now that the Thank you Bullchet is out of the way I have a few ?? to ask and would like the Truth if at all possible.
1) Did anybody know John Windfelder? His MOS/was a cook as well as Heavy Weapons Spl.Tiger Force
2) Can you be a So called "Cook" and also be a Tiger?
3) Anywhere I can find any pix of Tigers from Late 1971.The Tiger Force page stops at 1970 as for pix. Any pix taking by the investigators that doc the sight? Did the Army take pix as part of the investigation?I see many pix of Military Crashes in Vietnam but none of this crash. Why? Hiding something maybe? I'm sniffing around and so far this don't add-up.I have a hard time believing any thing those Criminals have to say in Washington. For good reason I feel this way.
4) Call me nuts if you like but I would like to make the trip to the A/C crash site. Taking the same walk the 501/sar Lead by a Mr J.L Hodges did.I want to see the site for myself and place a cross in honor of the 34 men who died that day. This is the only way I can come up with to show the respect I have to these 34 men as well as all who served in Vietnam.
With this in mind.
I cannot make a trip like this without some help.I would like to know if there is anyway to pin-point the site? Any maps? Any GPS numbers? Even Loran-c Numbers will do? By Mr Hodges Acct,His unit was dropped in 2 Clicks from the site. That's a long walk under fire but not to bad a walk in peace.I should be able to make contact with the site in half the time they did (My thinking anyway) Other than my ability and others (I do not see that as a problem) is there any reason this is not do-able? Any of your thoughts on this trip would be great.I have tried to locate Mr Hodges about this.He seems to be the only one with Knowledge about this crash, with no luck as of today's date. Anybody got any contact info for him? He posted on this site awhile back and express he was going to make a video concerning this crash. So if its a video the man wants to make I would like to help him make this happen.
There is also one more reason I would like to make this trip happen.
SP5 John Windfelder had 1 child (Jenny) my cuz.She grew up without her Dad.She has no Memories of her dad.Her comments on her dads page rips my guts out to read.It really gives clear insight to how painful this can be on the kids of KIA's.I cant bring her dad back But I CAN bring her something back from were her dad last was. She has nothing and anything from this site would be the center piece of her life and maybe the best gift anybody can give a person like herself. If I can make this happen I'm going to.I cant stand to read her words of pain. She grew up to be a fine lady. She's a medic that works in a small hospital in S.E.PA. SP/5 John would be proud of her.
My connection to SP/5 John is not anything like her's except for the fact my dad (THE KOREAN WAR VET who took copper to his legs in 1959) had changed my name at 2yrs old in honor of him.The same week he got the bad news.SP5/ John lived with my family in So Jersey for awhile. While I was growing up I was always told how much I looked like him. The whole family changed my name for this reason. Dad did the legal part on B/C to make it final. The funny part is as a 3yr old little man I did not now what the hell my name was.But I knew what tone of voice I should respect. As I got older the need to know this man I looked so much alike got more intense. The more I learned about this man,The more honored I was to have his name.Wow Dad named me after a member of the 1/327 Heavy Weapon's/Tiger Force member/Cook.All I can say is that gave this boy growing up one hell of a Big Head.Playing Army was the game I was best at.None Better.Playmates got "No Slack" you could say. My tactics got me in trouble with the old man a few times. All the element was laid out on the lawn do to your tactics, you little sob he would say. Anyway here are a few facts about SP/5 John Edward Windfelder.
1) He was the youngest of 13 kids. My grandmother was 49yrs old when she gave birth to him.49yrs old!!
2) HE was 1/2 Delaware Indian (unami) 1/2 German.
3) His nick-name was "JEW" John Edward Windfelder and had a plate made for the front bumper of his car that read "JEW".So maybe this Nick-Name will ring a bell for some?
I would like to thank you all who spent there time reading my post and please contact me at Farmallpat at Yahoo dot com if you have anything to add or info to my ??'S
Thanks
P JOHN windfelder

My dad is Tom Goodwin. He served with the Hawks and as a kid he gave me his patches from his service in the Army. Since then I have grown up and been on again off again collecting. Recently I have been back in the swing of things buying patches to at least get Divisions, Armies, Corps, because there are literally thousands upon thousands of patches. Case in point theater patches. I have the only Hawk Recon scroll I had ever seen until a guy who served popped up from the Hawk Recon unit. We sat and talked about different stuff for about an hour. He had invited me to his home. Bottom line is there are lots of fake patches out there and it's even made in Vietnam. Shit made a year ago to fool a collector like myself. I would like to find a REAL Tiger Force scroll from a man who served in the unit. This would complete my collection since I have the Hawk Recon scroll. PLEASE contact me via email and I will call or return the email. dkgoodwin1970@yahoo.com I also have the arrowhead he received from the RECONDO school. Tom was among the first one 100 graduates.

I am trying to locate a man who was a remarkably positive influence in my life as a young boy scout in 1969-1970. At that time he was SSgt James Hendrix, a medic in the HHC 1/327 Inf, 101st ABN. He was in San Antonio in 1968-69 recovering from GSW injuries received in Vietnam, and for some reason decided to take on a no-kidding rag-tag bunch of Boy Scouts at Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio. He was a remarkable influence on all of us, and we all directly gained from knowing him, something I was really not nearly able to appreciate as much then as I have long since then.
Anyway, I was digging through some old junk (courtesy of what will probably be my last PCS move after 30 years AD) and was amazed to come across several letters that he had sent me from Vietnam after he had returned following his return to full duty. I was stunned to read these, not having seen them since I had 1st read them with the eye of a clueless teenager in 1970. I read them now with the eyes of one with 30 military years' service, and the background of literally scores of accounts (some personally given to me, others I have read) regarding the Vietnam War and only now can dimly begin to see what he was relating to me of his experience and time there in the jungle, something that was simply too utterly alien for a young boy to grasp, other than I was so pleased he took the time to write me, as we all idolized him.
So, armed with the information on the envelopes (I am withholding his SSN for his own securities sake), I am hoping someone can help me track this man down so I can thank him for the strong positive impact he had on my life, now better armed with the hindsight of more than >40< years.
Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated, I will happily pursue any lead, no matter how trivial it may seem.
Best regards,

I wish a very safe, relaxing and enjoyable Memorial Day to all of my fellow trooper veterans. We will never shake the names of those we lost and that is a good thing. What we shared was so special few will ever understand. That we never forget each other says it all. God Bless America and NFS........Grey Ghost, B/2/327, January 67-January 68

I am disappointed that you have forgotton or acidently left out the Valourous Unit Award (VUA) that was presented to !/327 INF during Desert Storm. I served with A Co. 1/327 that assualted the defensive position that is identified in our VUA Citation. It was Sgt Green, who was awarded the Silver Star for single-handledy clearing the trenches surrounding the bunker complex.

My dear brother Daniel Fieux served with the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War starting in 1968. He served 2 tours. I do not know what troop/brigade he was in. As a girl my Mom and I would send packages to him with cookies, rum balls, and things needed.
What I am looking for is someone who might have known him during the Vietnam War. He had PTSD and was affected from Agent Orange. As many Vietnam veterans, he did not speak of the war. He died at age 40 and I found him dead from a heart attack. God was kind, he died in his sleep.
I just need to talk to someone who might have known him with the Screaming Eagles in 'Nam. I need closure.
I've seen the pain in the eyes of so many PTSD soldiers from the time of Danny's discharge to his death during the times he needed to go to the VA psych wards. *sigh* Thank you.

On or about 16 April 68, eight members of the 585th TC (tractor-trailer company out of Gia Le), delivered 175mm barrels, pro-jo's, and black powder to Bastogne. Rest in Peace brother:
(CNN) -- William Guarnere, a World War II veteran popularized by the "Band of Brothers" miniseries, has died. He was 90.
Guarnere was rushed to a hospital early Saturday morning and died of a ruptured aneurism that night, his son, William Guarnere Jr., told CNN.
"He lived a good life. He traveled a lot. He pretty much did everything he could have done," the son said Sunday.
During the war, Guarnere earned the nickname "Wild Bill." He lost a leg trying to save a friend on the battlefield.
The HBO miniseries was based on a book by Stephen E. Ambrose.
It told the story of Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army. Guarnere was played by actor Frank John Hughes.
The family is planning a funeral this week in Philadelphia, where Guarnere was born and lived most of his life, his son said.

My father was an FO with HHC battery, 5th Bn, 27th FA assigned to A Co, 1/327th. Leanard "Pat" Patterson is his name and he was a Staff Sergeant during his time in Vietnam in 1967. I'd love to be able to track down any photos of him, in particular, he tells a story of a news reporter embedded with them that actually has video of him. It wasn't until after he'd returned home to Ft. Knox that he actually saw this video on the news while eating dinner with mom. Love to get my hands on that. Thank you for any help you can provided!

Dear friends
Thank you for the responses so far. It turns out that John Imrie did get the Silver and Bronze Stars so no further action is necessary on that. His other friends are glad, as am I. It was the bravest thing I saw in the war, the greatest act of self sacrifice. It deserved notice and respect and I am glad our suppositions were wrong. Although I was a direct eyewitness, I was never asked about it. I'm glad to see something was done.
Thanks again

I was in 2d platoon A Co/1st Bn/327th from April to October. Started out as a rifleman ended up as the Platoon RTO, then I joined E Co/20th INF (LRP) (later renamed to C Co Ranger Reg) where I was on LRP team 46.
I saw John Imrie get hit running out to save a wounded man. This was in Chu LAi August 18th, 1967.
I understand he received no medal at all for this. This is an injustice I want to see resolved. I and some others of his friends are interested in getting a medal for him, perhaps a Silver Star.
I would appreciate help from this organization in helping me do it. Anybody interested in pursuing this please contact me at jamesgworth@gmail.com

Greetings to all. Just found this site and wanted to correct some information about my brother who served with A 1/327 in '68. Whereas I found the roster listing that is obviously him, he was listed as Jack L. "Spices" instead of Spicer. His hometown was also mistakenly entered as Princeton, IL. It was actually Princeton, IN. The ZIP code and phone number were, however correct. Whoever is in charge of this site, please correct this minor oversight so that others may find his information. It is my sad duty to report that my brother succumbed to cancer on 16 Mar '91. He served proudly as a Police Officer in Southern Indiana for many years before he became ill. If anyone at all remembers my brother, has anecdotes or even photos, I and my family would deeply appreciate it. If it is of any help, one of his best friends was KIA in 'Nam, and his name was John C. Imrie. Sorry to write a book here, but any help would be deeply appreciated. Thank You. jeffreymspicer@yahoo.com. Again, many thanks.

On or about 16 April 68, eight members of the 585th TC (tractor-trailer company out of Gia Le), delivered 175mm barrels, pro-jo's, and black powder to Bastogne. We had to remain in FBB for a week leaving on or about 21 April. It was an interesting experience including the convoy in and out. Thanks to you 101st AB guys for your hospitality during that time.

When i first returned from Vietnam spend many years as a addict and useless adult but with the grace of God and the love of a great woman I returned to life.looked for many years and finally found Derle Walter and Jerry Cohen served with them in Tiger Force got to spend some time with them and that helped with many issues.
God Bless the men and women who defend our rights and freedoms.
I was young and didn't know the trust placed in our hands I only hope more people will wake up and defend our way of life and not let this disappear from the earth. the struggle is here and not half way around the world

First of all, I would like to thank each of you for the sacrifices that you have made, both during war and in peacetime. The efforts of your unit and units like yours are not really appreciated as they need to be. So...THANKS.
I am working on some family history that includes SP4 Stephen Feistner. Stephen served in Vietnam, although I am not absolutely certain of the time frame. I understand that he re-enlisted in August, 1967. His date of death was 10-8-67, which would have been the battle that is discussed in the "Radioman" story.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone that might have some personal memories of Stephen. I want to keep him alive in our family's memory. He deserves at least that. If you would like to share, please email me at feistey41_00@yahoo.com. Any thoughts at all would be deeply appreciated. Prior to using anything, I will be sure to run it back past the contributor for their approval.
Thanks for considering this request and thank you for everything you have done.
Sincerely,
John Feistner

I'm writing for my dad who was in the 327th GIR that landed on Utah Beach on D Day. He is 92 now. I think he was in Holland and I think he said he missd the Battle of the Bulge because he got to go home on leave when his name was pulled from a hat from someone to get leave. I think he was in from 1942 to 1945. I am trying to get his records from St. Louis so I can verify some of his history. I think he said he was in Co. F, not sure which batallion. Any places I should look for information?

Looking for RTO Riggs. Say Darrell, I have been looking for an RTO named Riggs. We were thrown together in a very difficult situation that bonded us for life. It was during the Battle of My Phu, Southwest of Tuy Hoa. We were in a stand-off shoot out with seven NVA before I stashed Riggs in a spider hole, and made my way back to the CP to get help. Riggs was nailed twice in the left knee, and in all probability lost his leg. I never saw him after we put him on a gun-ship that came in when no Medi-Vacs were allowed to. I only heard from him (by letter through a Congressman from California) when he exposed the Sgt. who ran out on us during the melee. It's been forty-seven years, and I would sure like to see him again before I DEROS from this earthly life.

We did go to Hamburger Hill- Dong Ap Bia in '69 sometime after May, but I see no mention of this in the records at all. I still have the field maps for the record. Anybody remember this? I sure do. We were opcom to an armored group from the 1st Cav. There was a bulldozer knocking everything down on the way. Quite an operation! Left under fire. Hit by lightening near there.

This is a follow up to my post of January 27. I am still interested in anyone who may have some memories of SP4 Stephen Feistner. SP4 Feistner served in the 2nd Platoon, A Company, 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry, 101st Airborne from mid 1966-October, 1967. SP4 Feistner was KIA on October 8, 1967.

I am also trying to contact COL(R) John P. Lawton, Company Commander. The current email, John.lawton@mail.va.com is bouncing back undelivered.
I can most easily be reached at feistey41_00@yahoo.com
Thanks to those that have already helped me determine some of the activity that surrounded SP4 Feistner's death. It is very much appreciated.
Thank you all too for the sacrifices you have made during your lives. We live in a dangerous world and your efforts have helped keep us free and safe.
Sincerely,
John Feistner

I was a medic with 2/327 infantry from '68-'70 mostly Bravo Company. I remember Captain Piel.

I called you last week about a claim for a fellow veteran, & I've got a buddy of Richard Walker that was there in Vietnam the same time. If you could track a guy named: Lyle Wiggins, believed to live in Davenport, Iowa, this could be a great thing for Richard in filing his claim. Thanks again for your help. Just got a call from a VA service officer looking for anyone that remembers or served with Richard Lee Walker. He is trying to get a claim through for Richard and needs a buddy statement. It seems that Richard Lee Walker was with COBRA 1 327th and I think he said 67-68 time frame. We don't have him listed on our roster so I'm hoping if someone may remember him.
Contact me so I can relay the info for Richard.
Thank you

I flew for 3rd Bde Aviation as a White Team pilot, call sign Thunder 33. On January 25, 1971 we were asked to cover a medivac, just south of Rakaasan. We periodically would cover medivacs during the monsoon period. I think that it was a 327 unit on the ground? The medivac couldn't get in due to the clouds, rain and the recent enemy contact. My wingman, Thunder 27 (Donald Bruce) and I stripped off our guns and door gunners at Jack and went back to take out the wounded. I think we took out a total of 15 men. I made three trips in and my wingman made two trips. We took the men back to Jack where they were medivaced to Evans. We never did find out about the men and if they all made it or not. Like I stated in the beginning, I do not know for sure if it was the 327 or not, however; that was your normal A.O. I would really like to know before I leave this world. If possible, could you find out if any of your units were involved and if so how the men made out? I received a DFC a year after I had left the Army for this action, and my wingman did also, but it didn't state the unit that put us in for it? Your group is that last avenue I can think of. Thank you for any assistance you can be. Terry Vraniak
