Want to send this out in HONOR of Tim Zumwalt who just recently passed away from Leukemia? maybe Agent Orange?
Tim was one of us Original Boat People who went over on the USNS Leroy Eltinge in July of 1965. Tim was a RTO for Company HQs B 1/327.
The RTOs, Medics, Chaplains and chopper crews were the real hero’s of Vietnam, the rest of us just did what we had to do.
The RTOs walking around with the PRC-25 on his back with the antenna sticking up like a flag making him a target for the enemy required mucho balls.
He was our life line. He was our commo up and down, he got us support when we needed it, he called Medivacs, resupply birds, we couldn’t have survived without him.
RTO’s were not recipient’s of the CIB because of their MOS, over the years Tim expressed his regret not receiving one.
His service will take place later this month and I plan on leaving my CIB with his widow, He earned it more than I did.
